Downwind and Racing / NSP DC 14'0 x 24.2" Brushed Carbon Open Ocean
« on: March 01, 2016, 07:55:07 PM »
Hi All,

Looking for feedback and real world reviews on those that have paddled this board. I know the Australians will  likely have had the most experience with it. Obviously it is designed as an "ocean" board but is it still fast in flat water? It has been referred to as tippy, but how tippy? Can anyone compare it to a similar width board? I have paddled most of the production narrow boards such as the Sprint, Ace etc... and would love to hear a comparison.  Finally, how does it do in small downwind swell? Travis makes it work but I am not Travis....

Thnx

Gear Talk / Starboard Ace14 23.5 2013?
« on: August 06, 2013, 11:17:52 PM »
Hi,
Looking for info on the Starboard Ace 23.5 14 2013. Own a 2012 14 25 inch ace and really like it. Things that I think could be improved would be reduced weight, easier to step back (flat deck). The 2013 solves some of these issues. Has anyone paddled the 23.5 2013? Is the reduced width faster? I have heard conflicting reports. The conditions I paddle in are close frequency chop and flat water. I am 5,9 and 180lbs.
Any info like weight of the new models etc.. Would be appreciated. Those that have paddled these 2 boards, lets hear some comparisons.
Thanks!

Gear Talk / Ninja or Gladiator Pro??
« on: June 19, 2013, 02:28:43 PM »
Hi, looking for fastest flat water fin for my 14'. Trying to decide between LA Ninja or Gladiator Pro? I have paddled lots with the Ninja but never tried the Pro. Not looking for stability, just low drag.

Thanks!!

PS the fin will be switched around on 3 different 14' boards. Ace 25", Arrow 26", and Bullet 27".

Gear Talk / Ke Nalu Good And Bad?
« on: February 15, 2013, 07:51:34 PM »
I have read many of the pages of the other thread but looking for feedback specific to using it as a racing paddle. My specs, 5,9 185lbs, stroke improving everyday. Will race 14 and unlimitted next season. Coming from a Kialoa Toro. Like it but think a smaller paddle will have benefit (not beat me up).

Both positive and negative feedback on the paddle would be appreciated. I think the Maliko looks right for me.

Thanks!

Gear Talk / 2013 SIC Bullet 14 Review

2013 SIC Bullet Review part 1..

I am a lucky son of a gun!! Just received my 2013 production SIC Bullet 14 (thanks Rick Styles, Western Canada sales rep).Unwrapped it and initial impressions, wow! Looks killer and fantastic quality. It almost seems a shame to get wet. Serious artwork here. My board is the SCC non ASS version (carbon fixed fin).

Have not weighed it yet, but feels uber light! Like 26lbs light! This is a high volume board and compared to my 2010 carbon Glide, much lighter.

I will give a more detailed review soon, DJ style, pics to follow.

So stoked right now!

Gear Talk / M&M pintail vs New Squaretail
« on: September 04, 2012, 06:49:31 PM »
Hi,
Anyone tried the original pintail M&M? Could you compare it to the new Boardworks production version? I understand the original is more narrow and has a little more rocker. Thanks!

Gear Talk / Fin box for F16
« on: July 22, 2012, 08:40:58 PM »
Thinking about adding a fin box to my hollow Sic F16. Any cons to the idea? I just bought it used and find the rudder & fin underwelming for my area (pacific Northwest). Would you mount it before the rudder fin? I am looking for a solution to better tracking when not using the rudder. The stock fin has very small surface area. Also think it trims better in the flats when riding from the middle and the rudder gets in the way. Any ideas would be great!
Thanks

Gear Talk / Zre paddles

Anybody using them? They look really nice. Very light, choose your blade size, a lot of nice features. Best of all oval shaft. I love my Toro but looking for something smaller to compliment it. Any feedback would be great.
Thanks!

Anybody seen these in person? The hollow idea is very inviting to me. Price is great as well. Having trouble finding images, best I could do was find a small video on YouTube. Would love to know what the bottom shape was, rails etc.. Any info would be great.
Thanks!

SUP General / Surfboard Class in Racing
« on: June 30, 2012, 08:45:09 AM »
Anyone know the rules on board selection? Is it 12,2 and under, with no other rules? Wondering if I could use my 2010 12 Glide in the class. Have a friend that wants to try racing. Thanx!

Gear Talk / Morelli & Melvin Boardworks 14 Thoughts
« on: June 04, 2012, 05:36:06 PM »
Anyone have a Morelli & Melvin 14 that wants to share some info? I am looking to replace my 2011 Dominator with one. Tried one yesterday and really liked it. Felt a bit tippier than the bark but it was pretty choppy out. The nose did not seem to catch as much as a displacement nose, felt kind of like my Glide.

Looking to see if anyone has made a GPS comparison to the Bark or any other 14s, and is around my weight (190 Lbs). I am concerned about the low volume (205L) with my weight. It felt good but I was only out on it for 20 minutes or so.

Ponobill, if you read this, I know you did some GPS work and felt it was slower than the Bark. Do you think it was an issue with it not floating your weight?

I just cannot find the sweet spot on my Bark. Looking at all the options out there.

Downwind and Racing / So How Much is Paddle And How Much is Board?
« on: May 31, 2012, 11:17:53 PM »
To continue with the theme of a similar thread, how much is the paddle and how much is me? I think the paddle may be even more important than the board (other than waterline). My paddle sure felt heavy after my race this evening!
