Foil SUP / Downwind Foiling Pop Up Tips
« on: May 01, 2019, 12:35:02 PM »
Learning to pop up on the foil is the hardest thing I've had to learn in the world of downwind paddling. I've been at it for a little over a year now and I'm starting to find some techniques that help to get lifted. Hope this video helps anyone that wants to foil downwind.

Downwind and Racing / Maui Downwind Videos

The wind forecast was calling for light trades 5-15mph but it always seems to be a little stronger here on Maui than what's predicted. We had some really fun sections with wind gusting up into the mid 20s. I had the camera on my hat and once my head got hot the camera fogged up and I couldn't film some of the better sections of the run.
Got buzzed by a windsurfer around 2:45. I think it's the first time that a windsurfer actually went behind me.

Downwind and Racing / Paddle Imua
« on: May 06, 2012, 10:20:35 AM »
We had a great event here on Maui yesterday to support Camp Imua. Proceeds of Paddle Imua will directly benefit Camp Imua, an annual program from Maui’s own Imua Family Services that takes place in June at Camp Maluhia in the West Maui Mountains. For one week, 50 special needs campers and more than 200 volunteers come together for a week of crafts, games, swimming, helicopter rides and general fun, while making new friends and catching up with old. Special thanks to Bluesmiths for being the main sponsor. Other sponsors included Whole Foods, Sansei Restaurant, Maui Brewing Company, Flatbread Pizza Co., and Kona Red. They topped it off with free massages, live entertainment, and a raffle that included a S.I.C. board, a JP windsurfing rig, airline tickets, gift certificates to premiere Maui restaurants, and many more.

The conditions were great for this 10 mile Maliko run to the harbor. Winds were 15-20 from the ENE with little ground swell, which made for some fun glides and various lines to the harbor entrance. This is the same course as the annual Naish race that takes place this July. It'll be interesting to compare the times.

The results should be up soon, and I'll post them here when I see them.

Hopefully this will be an annual event, everyone had a blast!
