I got to do a SUP & Ski "biathlon" last Friday 4/24 at Mt Baldy. It was an epic day with no crowds.
They were open for social distanced skiing/snowboarding. They sell reserve lift tickets in golf tee time blocks so only 4 people every 10 minutes can pick up tickets and head up the mountain. Masks were required at the top and bottom of the lifts. They still had a good snowpack. It was soft and sugary, not slushy considering the air temp was mid-60s. Got about 10 runs w/ 10,000 vertical feet total, then headed back home to Santa Monica for a sunset paddle session.

My plans and budget to get into foiling got sidetracked by these two Sunovas. The foil is gonna have to wait until spring but the Kenalu Black Friday sale is killing/tempting me.
Acid 7'7 - I'm loving this board. Lots more control in critical sections and lots of drive so less paddling needed to make sections. Sticks to the wave when taking drops I'd normally wipe out. Turns on a dime. Next level performance from my previous Starboard 7'7 Pro. Everything that Bert says in the Acid video is for real.
Insane 8'5 - waiting for a big swell to really see what this board was made for. Took it out in smaller waves and was surprisingly fun. Kinda like paddling a short raceboard since it's pretty narrow at 25". Catches waves pretty decently. It rides kinda like a slimmer Speed or Creek. Even did a couple of noserides. I think this would be a good board for me to take if paddling from break to break since it has lots more glide than the Acid which has none really.
My quiver is complete!

When there's no swell you can still do this...
Went on an 8 mile paddle around Malibu looking for the baby whale that surfaced near third point on Saturday. No dice on Sunday but I've never seen the water around here so clean and warm. It was Hawaii like. Diving around was fun. Even got to surf some small waves at Surfrider on the 14' raceboard there was no crowd. Enjoy the tour...

Pretty cool to see Kai SUP surf Slater's wave... How fun would it be to have a SUP surfing contest on that wave?

When the surf is small there's a greater chance of getting a buddy to shoot drone vids instead of surfing.
Funny story...the lifeguard came up to us and said you can't fly drones here. Per FCC regulations you must fly at least 500 yards from shore and 500 yards in the air. I was rolling on the sand. Here's a little clip of what we shot...Enjoy!

We took the Pau Hana SUPsquatch out to Topanga beach today which is a kinda SUP friendly kinda not place. I wasn't sure what reaction we'd get. Turns out everyone on the water and at the beach was cheering for us. A few of the proners even wanted to hop on board. We got one of the pretty proners to hop on. She's in front in the video.
I was thinking the SUPsquatch could be a good ambassador for SUP. What do you think?

We shot some video today and had an interesting surf session. This was in Topanga beach north of L.A. It's kinda SUP friendly kinda not. Ironically, I got dropped in on by a "kook" proner. Unintentional on her part, she was nice enough to apologize.
But to my surprise. When I caught an outside wave, none of the usually grumpy "local" proners dropped in on me like they normally would. Felt like I had some respect in the line up.
Anyway the video shows both situations. Later on, we hopped on the SUPsquatch and had some fun. I'll post on a separate thread. What a Sunday funday it was.

There were a bunch of bat rays swimming below us while out surfing this morning. The fisherman who caught it was gonna have it for dinner.

Admin posted an interesting research on paddlesports from a related thread (see link below). It would be interesting to see how the SUP industry demo lines up with the Zoners. The SUP part of the study indicates 49% females, 16% age 45+, 52% income $100K+ Just a guess but on the Zone it seems more like: 90% male (see Hot Chicks thread) 80% age 45+ (count the many threads on aches and pains) 80% income $100k+ (many folks here with expensive quivers) http://www.outdoorfoundation.org/pdf/ResearchPaddlesports2015.pdf
