Gear Talk / Inflatable repair
« on: April 22, 2020, 06:05:15 PM »

I've got a Naish One inflatable that I've had since 2013 and it's held up really well but I noticed some leaking in the back of it last time I took it out. I did the soap test on it to get a better look and there are several small holes around the top of the tail, and then what looks like 2 small ones along the seam behind the D ring. The holes along the top I feel like I could just patch after watching some videos but I'm more concerned about trying to repair the one along the seam. Is that something I could try myself or does that need a pro repair? It's not bad yet, but I'm a little worried about a blow out. I'm also wondering given the age of the board if the material has just degraded from use and if I'd be better off just replacing it. It's been a great board and it seems a waste to just toss it. I'm in the LA area if you know of anyone smarter than me who could repair it. :D Thanks!

Gear Talk / Surf SUP recs for beginning surfer
« on: February 01, 2017, 10:16:14 AM »

Yep, another one of these! I've got a 12'6" naish one inflatable that I've had for years that I bought while I was living in Seattle. It's still fun but not really the right board now that I've been living in LA for a while. I've been learning to prone surf which is fun but I know just by watching that sup surfing is way more fun!  I'm 5'7" about 130 and a woman if the name doesn't give it away. I've been spending most of my surf time either at Malibu third point or at Mondos in Ventura county which looks really sup friendly.  To start I think I'm mostly looking for stability but not super heavy and something that I can actually turn! My budget isn't huge so I'm hoping to buy used but any help on what to look for would be most appreciated.

SoCal / Where do I go to learn?
« on: May 18, 2015, 10:05:00 PM »
Hi everyone,

I just moved to LA from Seattle a few weeks ago and now that the house is unpacked I'm dying to get back on the water.  I've mostly paddled Puget Sound and messed around with some freighter wave surfing, but I've only SUSed in proper waves a few times. The board I have is a 12'6" naish one inflatable which I'd like to retire for a surf shape. So long story short, I'd love any advice on where I could go for flatwater, and also where would be a good spot for a beginner sup surfer to start and rent a board that would be better for waves than mine is. Thanks!

SUP General / video project question
« on: May 16, 2013, 03:57:43 PM »

Hi everyone, I'm taking a video editing course and am hoping to put together something on SUP for the class. What I would love to get is people on camera talking about what SUP means to them and why you enjoy being on the water.  Even just a 30 second clip shot with your phone would be awesome. If anyone would be interested, PM me and I'll send you my email and could send you a couple of questions to answer. Thanks!

SUP General / Recommendations near LA?
« on: April 24, 2013, 12:57:20 PM »

A friend and I are headed to LA for a few days in May. She's never SUP-ed before and I'm not familiar with the area at all, so I'd love some recommendations for a place that does lessons. I could show her the basics but I don't like to do that in water I don't know. We're staying in Santa Clarita so closer to there would be better. Thanks!

Gear Talk / Good board for Puget Sound?
« on: January 05, 2013, 01:07:16 PM »

I need advice on my first board purchase! I spent most of the summer cruising around the sound in West Seattle on a rented 12' 6" Hovie Nomad that I really liked, and the shop I rented it from still has it for sale. I'm tempted to pick it up, but I'm curious about what might be better. I like the board for its stability but getting it through the chop seemed so much slower than other riders I saw in the area. We don't see a ton of wave action over here, but I'd like to take it to Westport at some point where there's actual surf once my skills improve a bit. I also played around on a 10'6" Bic which was fun but nothing to write home about it.  I'm 5'7" and around 150 when I lay off the beer and Christmas cookies. Any thoughts would be most appreciated!
