Hy, the Slingshot Foils esp. the H2 doesn't get too good reviews from certain users here, esp. when over 190 lbs. Does anyone have tested the SS H4? It has significantly more area than the H2, 1360 sqcm vs. 1150 sqcm. About as much area as the Takuma V400, more than e. g. the Takumam V100, Naish Thrust L or Gofoil Kai. But it's not a big wing like the IWA or Maliko. On the other hand: Is surface area everything or are there other factors, like span or profile thickness? Alex

Hello, I want to get a SimSup or Tomo based Custom board, but located in the south of germany our local shapers have quite some experiences in building windsurfing boards but not in SUP or Surfboard shapes. Mountains, beer and brezels are more common here than waves Custom boards from the US or Aus are not an option (shipping), Eurobased only Gong possible, but they have huge waiting times for a board and located in south of France are not really "local" for me. So why custom and not big brand boards like a JP Slate or Naish raptor or AHD Sealion? I'm not sure what JP and Nasih offer is exactly what i want since this board should also work as a Windsup/Foilboard getting a Tuttlebox as a center box. (I discussed that already in the Wind powered section.) The AHD Sealion imo are not up to date with their shapes anymore, reading all the stuff about Simsup and Tomo. My idea would be a board around 8' x 30" to 8'4 X 31", 4 1/2 to 4 7/8", 130 to 140 liters, to support my 90 kg / 200 lbs in choppy SUP conditions or when putting a windsurfing rig on. With this measures i guess it has to be more Simsup than Tomo concept. Or? Outline and rails according. Bottom concave to double concave V in the tail (like Simsups) So now my question to all you in the know out there: What rockerline would you suggest for such board? Windsurffing rockers would be to flat? Im thinking of a staged rocke, flat scoop 4" on the first 3' , flattish from 3' to 7', than tailkick to 2" of tailrocker. Is this any good for SUSing, i have no clue? If somebody wants to design something like that in 3DX od Acuushaper etc. your welcome with everything you suggest. Thank you all. Alex

Hi, i'm always trying to learn more about the SUP shapes, but have very limited acces to shape data. Having a windsurfing backround i know quite a bit about these shapes, e. g. a waveboard has about 20 - 25 mm of rocker, a flatwater board about 0 - 10 mm.
Can anyone compare the SUP rockerlines, e. g. surfSUPs to the raceboards? Has a SUP raceboard a rockerline more like a windsurfboard for planing?
Another question is: "what's a "fast" rockerline in a surfSUP (Wardog shapes)? Does that mean flat midsection with tailkick versus more continous rocker in a standard shape?
When would a rockerline start to plane like a windsurfboard? Is there a definite borderline or is this a continous borderline?
What's the difference in having the rocker more in the centerline (monoconcave) vs. Rocker in the rails (v-Shapes)?
All info welcome. Alex

I just read a test in the german surf magazine where they did test 135 liter Freerideboards and the Naish Nitrix was rated a big, really good turning, late planing freemoveboard because it has a small tail and huge rocker. Now my mind can't stop thinking if one of bigger Nitrix boards, 260 x 74cm or 264 x 78cm wide, wouldnt be good flat water / small wave SUP too, doubling as a perfect crossover board. I'm wondering how far away the nitrix rocker line is from a flat rockerd SUP line. For sure such a short board wouldn't have the best glide, but that would't matter to me.
Another idea i have is how an old windsurf rockerline of the '80ies from a 295 "radical funboard" would work with a SUP outline, maybe build by an custom shaper of these old days, who's still in duty (in Germany we still have them, G. Lorch (LORCH boards) i'm thinking of, or K. Jocham (Hifly) or D. Jocham (Horney, Angulo Slalom)

Hi everybody,
i'm about to sell my 7'6 minimal surfboard, as i don't use it anymore since i got my SUP. It's a 10' x 31" RRD Wassup on which i surf quite well after one year of practise (weighing 90kg naked). Now i'm thinking of stepping down on an additional 2nd SUP as an replacement for my 7'6 surfboard. I'm considering boards like the Naish Hokua 9'0 or the Starboard 8'5 x 30 Pocket rocket. In choppy conditions i would still use the 10'.
Do you think that these boards are to small as a step down for clean conditions? Or can i go even shorter like the 7'8 Hokua or 7'4 Rush?

My current Board is a RRD Wassup 10'. With this board windsurfing really means planing if using a 30 cm+ fin is used. Sail used go from 8.5 down to 5.3 KA Sails. But the Wassup lacks some SUP Surfing abilitys because it lacks nose rocker and has a fat tail. Now i'm thinking of changing to a Starboard Widepoint 9'5 because i think this board is the better waverider. Has anyone tried this board for planing windsurfing, playing also with bigger fins and maybe using the footstraps. I saw pictures at wardog's HP where there were two plug rows for the back straps, is this standard? Additional questions: Has anyone ever measured the rockerlines of the boards to examine the planing potential? Does anyone know other SUP boards that plane in windsurfing mode? Do Kite Surfboards have different rockerlines to normal Surfboards to get them planing? If not, why do they plane?

Hi, this is my first post here, but i've read the forum for quite a while and find it the most valuable SUP forum. Coming from a windsurfing backround i purchased a Tabou Windstyler Small 1 year ago. My aim was having a not to long Board < 3m with reasonable windsurf abilities but also being supable. The Board is 9'6 x 27'7" an has 170 Liters, weight is 13 kg, it has a steptail like the Kona Boards and strap options.
For SUP paddling on Flatwater the board is stable enough for my 88 kg and i fall very seldom. But as soon as waves or chop occurs i fall quite a lot and i still have problems catching waves when i paddle hard and put to much weight on one foot and then fall. The guys around me seem to get the waves easier on their wider but not always bigger boards. I have around 20 SUP sessions on it now, the other 50 days a year i get on the water are 85% windsurfing and 15% surfing.
Now i'm thinking of getting another board, the RRD Wassup 8'5 would be my favourite especialy for windsurfing in waves i'd not like too much of board at my feet. On the other hand i think for SUP stability the Wassup 10' would be a safer choice but with some disadvantages when used for windsurfing in waves.
The question now for me is: Can anybody of you estimate if the Wassup 8'5 X 31" is more/less/equal stable in choppy SUP conditions then my Tabou Windstyler Small?
How would the Wassup 10' x 31" compare to these boards?
All opinions welcome.
Alex
