Foil SUP / Foil placement for Starboard Carbon 6'6 SUP
« on: June 07, 2021, 08:06:07 PM »
I just picked this up.

I was using a Naish 2450 on the board.  It just seems off. Is it the foil?  It paddles in then lifts uncontrollably and bucks me off.

I can usually foil fine but I cannot seem to figure this one out.  Is the foil too big?  Do I need to move it back in the box?

Just learning to Wing Foil.

I have researched and researched and am still trying to learn but cannot seem to figure out this part.

If I am using a larger foil wing does that mean I can use a smaller wing?

Example- I have a naish 2450 Foil.  Can I use a 4 Meter Wing instead of a 5?

What wing size should I be using? I am 6'3 and around 250 pounds.

I tried out a Naish 7m once but the thing was so big and huge it was kind of difficult to hold.

Thanks for any help.

SUP General / SUP in Newport, RI?
« on: March 14, 2020, 01:23:21 PM »
Is there a SUP scene in Newport or Middletown?

Shops I can purchase a board from?

Breaks to avoid? Breaks to go too? I’m going to be moving there and don’t want to upset anyone.

Thank you.

Gear Talk / My 12 ft SUP feels tracky with my quad fins
« on: December 07, 2018, 11:39:16 AM »
I have a 12 x 24 x 5 SUP.

It has the 4 + 1 boxes setup. The tail is a double diamond.

I mostly ride it in San Diego at longer point break waves.

I have it set up as a single fin right now but previously had it as a quad fin.

When I had it as a quad fin it felt good going down the line but would not turn if i tried. It seemed that there was so much speed that any attempt at turning and you were bucked off cause of how fast it was going.  Maybe cause I had too much fin? I was running large future black sticks with 80/20 rears.

Should I try 50/50 rear fins?

Should i try put a knubster and see if that helps with some release and drive? I keep hearing the knubster works and I bought both the 3 inch mini fin and guitar pick one from stand up paddle sports but haven't tried them.  Do they help?

Anyone try these fins? https://www.trueames.com/collections/ryan-lovelace/products/lovelace-piggyback-quad

Maybe those with a knub?

Im not trying to do high performance surfing but at least a little turns. I like the speed a quad offers because the rail line is so long that having the two inside rails engaged seems to work best.

Thanks.

Gear Talk / Starboard Atlas 12'0
« on: October 29, 2017, 10:01:16 PM »
Anyone ride one? I'm looking for something to cruise around on. I ride a NAISH Hokua 7'0 for my surf board.

If not an Atlas does anyone have suggestions on a similar board that's 12 ft?

I'm looking to pick one up but having trouble finding it in Hawaii. If anyone has leads on how I can get one in Hawai that would be nice. Thanks.

Anyone know where I can get one in Hawaii? Called blue planet but they didn't have any but they did say they'd check to see if they could order one for me. Waiting to hear back.

If anyone has a good lead on it I'd be stoked. Trying to get the big board for a specific reason. Thanks.

« on: May 14, 2008, 10:28:02 PM »
Anyone have experience with these boards?  I was checking them out and they look quite nice.  My GF wants to get herself a board so I told her Id research.  Of course I would take it out too.  Anyone tried one?  And before anyone knocks NSP, my best friend has has a shortboard for ten years.  He surfs it daily and its still in good shape.

SUP General / how long did it take you?
« on: April 07, 2008, 10:36:35 PM »
How long before you figured out paddling and standing without any problems.  Went out today and realized how hard it was.  Took me awhile but I started figuring it out.  How long did you guys spend on the water?

SUP General / Bought my first SUP, cant wait to try it out
« on: April 06, 2008, 11:15:30 AM »
I took the plunge and got a great deal for a board.  Im taking her out later on today to learn how and try out.  I surfed for years and this looked like something I could get into.  I surf on an area restricted to the general public with sick waves and lots of hidden spots that no one can go to.  It catches all north and NE swells here on Oahu.

Heres a picture

what do you guys think?
