I've been following this SUPAA thing from the sidelines, just a bit curious on the why's and general opinions being put forth to the classification being enacted.
A big part of the reason that I got into sup was for the pure enjoyment aspect of being out on the water, paddling, trying to catch some waves. I get that there will always be a group that must turn every activity into a competition.....and there will be those that will want to regulate the activity.....happened with skateboarding and snowboarding as I was growing up. I'm not knocking the competitive aspect for the serious athlete that needs to gauge themselves against others, it's just not for me. I still remember the days when we would all race downhill on our snowboards, mass start to see who could get to the bottom of the run first, this was in the mid 80's. just a bunch of kids having fun....digressing here - sorry.
I propose for the fun of it to get a new race class going for SUS boards. Keep the boards somewhat short 8' ish or less. It would require a shorter course, providing a better spectator experience, and for those taking part it would create an environment to work/improve on their paddling skills on what we all know is not an ideal paddling platform. Sandbaggers who decide to show up on an 11' board may get called out? Pretty sure this will take care of itself. I'm looking to put back the FUN into what is unfortunately becoming another regulated activity.
Thoughts?

will airlines even allow it? I'm thinking the biggest they would allow would be a 12'6".

Saw these a couple of days ago, seems like a good deal on a nice paddle. Note - small blade.

Im going a little stir crazy not being on the water these days, damn Canadian winters!
I'm gonna take my paddle down to the pool in my building and just paddle a bit standing on the pool deck. I realize this is not ideal as the blade will be moving through the water into which it is planted rather than my body moving past the paddle entry point.
What I'm trying to determine, is this a good or bad idea....I'm thinking shoulder strain. Would be good to work on the stroke in the off season.
Cheers

Don't see any issues but thought I would ask here just in case. The one fin box on the left side of my board releases some water (a bit) when I get home. I have FCS boxes. Normal or should I have it checked out?

We're moving to a new place and the only storage options for my boards is standing upright on end. Any issues with this long term? Have been looking for some sort of wall mounted rack system, have not had any luck so far. Any help would be appreciated.

Been doing a lot of reading on easy on the shoulder paddles for the upcoming season. Found several recommendations here for the original Jimmy Lewis Kahana paddles. Just picked one up today for $80.19 + $25.00 shipping from Windance Boardshop in Oregon. There are two more paddles left at this price listed on their site, see link below. http://www.windance.com/Used-Gear-Used-SUP-Boards/The 14' Jimmy Lewis Sabre is not a bad deal either. Cheers

Someone posted one of his vids a few months ago tearing it up in a crowded lineup in brazil. Found another video of him on the web. Does a nice job surfing on a longboard, hitting the lip, etc. second half he switches over to a sup. Pulls off some amazing frontside and backside floaters, some nice slashing, and the usual killer paddle work. Enjoy.
