Gear Talk / SB Element - fully naked!

last month i had a little surgery on my collarbone following a stupid bike crash, so while i was out of the game i decided a good project would be to redek my old 9'8" Element.
Its a good fun board but ive been wanting to take off the hideous pad since day 1, 4 years ago.  it was cheap what can i say.   

here it is with most of the eva cut off, glue removal underway.  all the scrubbing was great for my shoulder rehab.
Mineral spirits seemed to work the best at loosening the glue, though i used some dabs of acetone on the really tough bits.
horrible job, took me probably 5 hours spread over a week.

i kinda halfassed the glue removal where i knew the new pad would cover it back up.


here it is in the new outfit. i sprayed a little no-slip so she is all ready to go summertime nose riding!

Gear Talk / Make a EZ ledge handle

after 2 weeks on maui using a new 8-5 pro with a ledge handle, the old style one on my own 2012 board felt horrible!  I was thinking of carving it out and doing a new install but then i had an idea. i just made a little worm of marine tex putty and stuck it on the inside edge (after roughing it up a bit with a rasp).   turns out it feels awesome and is way more positive than before. i can still lift the board with my 3mm gloves on.   
 after the pic, i sprayed it black so you cant even see it.  cant believe i didn't do this years ago!
