Gear Talk / Adarac and other pick up truck options
« on: May 30, 2015, 07:25:11 PM »
Hey all,

I have a Ford Super Crew F 150.  I can get my Thule racks retro fitted with new feet but ran across Adarac as a solution.  I use a tonneau cover on my truck and this rack system looks like it will not interfere with my cover.  Curious to see if others have any experience and if it is any good for carrying sups.  I have three boards that all travel with me a few times a year and then more often, one is with me regularly.  6 months of the year I have no need for racks and would just remove the racks from my truck.  If you have other pick up truck/ tonneau cover solutions, please let me know.  thanks

Just got two pics of my new Infinity RNB.  Can't wait for her to land and get out and ride this board. 8'8" x 30 @125 liters for me at 6'3" 195 x 45 years old and dealing with some Northeast chop.

SUP General / Your favorite SUP surfers
« on: February 08, 2015, 02:31:53 PM »
It is winter here in the northeast and unlike creek, I am out of the water for kids hockey, snowboarding etc for a few months.  I also enjoy catching up on youtube videos and other videos of my favorite sup surfers when time permits to start thinking about Spring and getting back in the water.  Who do you guys like watching?  I feel like these guys, while different, all have style and some power.

My favorites

Dave Kalama
Keahi de Aboitiz

My new board arrived today and in one piece.  Here are a few pics.  Unfortunately it is going to be a few weeks before I can hit the water because or work and family commitments but I am really excited with how the board turned out.  Thanks, Kirk.

Gear Talk / Kialoa GL Surf Paddle
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:06:46 AM »
I saw a video of this paddle on their Facebook page but was curious to hear if anyone has seen one yet or if you might have more info.  I am in the market for a new surf paddle and was thinking about the methane until I saw the video.  This is not the previously announced race paddle.

Hey Guys,

I have a stock 2012 Tahoe and will be making a trek with the family this summer-2012 tahoe with kids, wife and gear inside so my options are the roof only-I have to get on a ferry with the car so a trailer is not practical.  I would ideally like to take 4 boards with me.  A 14fter for windy days, an 11'6 for surfing with one of my kids on front and as a loaner for friends who are learning, a 10ft long board sup and an 8fter for the days the surf is pretty good to great.  I know it seems like a lot of gear for a few weeks but I work my tail off and I want to maximize every free minute I can while on a two week vacation.  I did two boards on the factory rack last summer-no issues on the way but a 40 mph head wind on the way home made the drive pretty sketchy.  I know there is not enough width, nor would I trust the factory racks with 4 boards.  Am I ditching some of this gear or does anyone have any recommendations?  I know August is along ways a way but it is snowing really hard here in CT right now and all I want to do is go surfing.   Any advice would be appreciated.  Otherwise the 14fter stays home along with either the longboard or the 8 footer.

Gear Talk / Infinity or coreban icon
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:18:37 PM »
Hi all

I have narrowed my board choices down to either the coreban icon or an infinity-either the slater 10 ft boardworks or a custom infinity shape based on the slater with just a hair more width and thickness.  I am 42 and 6 3 and 185 lbs.  I used to surf a lot in my younger days but am new to sup.  I have a 11 6 jimmy Lewis cruise control.  This new board will be used as a 2nd board for my wife to cruise and I will be riding it in east coast summer surf.  I have always preferred longboard style progressive surfing where you can nose ride but also step back and get the board to turn quickly.  I don't want to flail and struggle but don't want to out grow this board quickly either.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Gear Talk / New Board Help
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:01:57 AM »
Hi everyone.  This is my first post.

After a long ten year hiatus from surfing and windsurfing I got in the water and tried stand up back in March while on vacation in Fl.  Not only did I have a great time but my wife tried it and loved it too.  We bought an 11'6" cruise control-it was left over inventory and we got a great deal.  Figured it would be a good place to start and would be good to put the kids on as well.  The water in ct isn't the best so while it is big, it is nice to not worry about falling in.

I'm now trying to figure out what to buy.  Most likely I will start with a more surf specific board as we will be spending a few weeks this summer up in MA and will hopefully get some swell.  So far the coreban icon and fusion look interesting as well as the fanatic all wave and the naish nalu 9'6".  I am 6'2" 185 lbs and 42 years old.  I think the naish will probably be too big a challenge to float me which is a bummer because i can grt a great deal but maybe someone my size can tell me if it is a possibility. I am more interested in progressive long board riding-some noseriding with the added ability to work the board and do cutbacks and surf rail to rail.

Thanks for your help.
