SUP General / Cross training
« on: December 02, 2009, 07:08:26 PM »
I was talking to a surfer friend today who was checking the surf after a SUP sesh today.  He thought it was a bit too small today to go surfing again and how it will get bigger and better tomorrow and how big it was the other day and how sore and tired he's still is from all the other days of surfing and so forth.  I'm thinking, yea I was tired and sore too, but it looked like a great SUP day and I couldn't resist.  It turned out to be one and an unbelievable amount of waves were ridden,  It was just as fun, if not more, as the recent days of surfing and windsurfing.  Seems like there's those people who are happy doing only just one activity, surf, windsurf, kite, sup, or whatever, and there's those who do a couple of them or several depending on the conditions or mood their in.  The ones that I do seem to all compliment each other, but SUP definately has the best overall effect in getting in better shape for the other ones that I like to also do.

The Shape Shack / Construction effects
« on: November 08, 2009, 09:27:11 AM »
A friend was telling me once how he could feel every little piece of chop and ripple slapping his board while learning to paddle it on flat water.  Personally, I would prefer not to experience this especially while riding a wave.  I'm thinking that different constructions can have different effects like stiffness, crispness, vibration dampening, buoyancy acceleration, and flex.  I've really noticed this on sailboards.  Some riders subjectively prefer certain flavors of lengths, shapes, weights, brands and prices.  Anybody have any favorite construction effects flavors?

Gear Talk / Helmets anyone?
« on: September 11, 2009, 10:56:43 PM »
The bouys were reading 6' @ 21 secs / 10' @ 19 secs, so it was fairly big and powerful, clean and glassy too.  Easy access to the insane take offs as there was several minutes between the sets.  I just finished riding all of these bombs and was trying to get out of the water in around knee deep slop 20 feet from shore when it happened.   I guess my board or who knows what smacked my head because I never saw it coming.  Sometimes its the stuff you would never worry about that can get you.  Anyway, I got 9 stitches now, a little head ache and thinking about wearing a helmet next time becuase I have to wait awhile to go next time.

I'm hearing lots of good things about this new fiber/cloth.  I'm thinking about utilizing it in my next boards.  Any experiences with it would be appreciated.

Thought I'd take some pics before the NSI pad gets here and goes on it.  So much fun surfsailing it.
