Downwind and Racing / Coreban Dart vs. Naish Glide 14 (2012)
« on: March 10, 2012, 05:02:35 PM »
Hello zoners,

A question for those who have experience with either/both of these boards.

I'm looking for a 14' downwind/ flat water board, and have narrowed it down to these 2 options. Can anybody comment on the pros/cons of either/both for downwind runs, flat water paddling, and light touring? I've heard a lot about the Glide but not as much about the dart.

I'm 5'10", approximately 200 lbs, and would consider myself beginner/intermediate. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks,

Whitewater and River SUP / Drysuits for WW paddling
« on: April 15, 2011, 11:43:48 AM »
I was wondering if any Zoners have much experience with drysuits and was looking for a recommendation.  I have it narrowed down to three (maybe four) different suits.  They are:

  Level 6 Barrier Drysuit
  NRS Inversion drysuit
  NRS Extreme Relief drysuit

and possibly (but unlikely) the NRS Extreme SAR drysuit (only being considered because of the durability).

My main concern is the latex socks versus the fabric socks - NRS uses latex whereas Level 6 uses fabric, and I was wondering about pros and cons of each (as well as durability).  There is about a $300 price difference between the NRS suits and the Level 6 suits, and I was wondering if any NRS users could comment on their experiences (as I would prefer to put that money towards an ULI).

  Thanks.

SUP General / Paddling the Great Bear rainforest

Norm Hann and Brian Huntington have put together a film that follows Norm's expedition along the "tanker route" of Northern BC.  This is an area notorious for shipwrecks and maritime disasters, and they want to raise awareness about a proposed pipeline running from Alberta to the coast of BC.  There's a trailer for the movie they did about it on the site below - check it out.

Anyone know of any SUP dealers in Bellingham, Washington  (or near Bellingham)?  I'm looking for Starboard dealers in particular, but any help/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Gear Talk / Limited to Surftech - which board do I choose?
« on: September 24, 2010, 12:28:16 PM »
As the title suggests, I am limited to Surftech SUP's when it comes to buying a new board (I work in a shop that only carries the Surftech line) and I was wondering which of the following boards Zoners would suggest.  I am 5'10" and approximately 200 lbs, and I will be using it for a mix of flatwater and surf (probably a 60/40 ratio of flatwater to surf).  The boards I have it narrowed it down to are:

  1) Laird Pearson Arrow 11'
  2) Hawaiian Pro Designs Ali'i II (11')
  3) 11'6" Laird (in Tuflite)
  4) For 2011 Gerry Lopez has a "Big Darlin'" coming out, so I put this one on the list because I've heard good things about the surf music and the lil darlin.  I believe it's 11'2"
  5) Any others anyone is willing to suggest.

I'm still a beginner but I'm hoping to get something that I won't outgrow too quickly.

Thanks.
