needed some fresh booties-have and like the Vibram 5 toes and the Body Glove 3T wanted to try something different-came across these Pros-easy to see your toes going into their prospective homes-thats it. Cons-not easily adjustable-weep holes on top of toes! no place for sand-gravel-small children to flush out of at bottom!-who designed this-i took one step out of the sand and onto my board and they were filled with sand/gravel-dumb design-both the other brands have bottom vents not easy to flush out by kicking your feet around once you get out past the lineup-had to take them off-this was after i lost one just going through one decent sized wall of whitewater-the whitewater sucked one right off my foot! Didnt feel all that grippy either but did not have alot of test time-i took one decent wave-slipped on the bottom turn and ate crap and came up cussin rolled them up and stuffed them into my sleeves for rest of sesh. no go....

So my good surf buddy-Will-lives near a notorious bay famous for sweet pads and heaving shorebreak. Same place that ate my beloved Nectar a few years back-i havent been back since to his spot despite his constant whining!
Will is a great dude-big personality and always willing to charge-consequences be damned. Think Seth Enslow from Crusty Demons of Dirt meets Kung Fu Panda.
Here he is detonating his custom chrome Hobie Colin Pro model in thumping TAB shorebreak.

so reads a line by Charlie Smith-A Northwest Gothic in the latest The Surfers Journal.
Im of the line that his socalian cousins were and while i have always appreciated the PAC NW surfer ethos this well written gem had me laughing and at the same time newly appreciating their life style.
TSJ is just so good, there are, as usual, a lot of other great reads in this issue, just something about they way he personified the Oregon surfing life hit me though.
If you havent already, do yourself a favor and get a subscription.
And the next time you meet an Oregonian surfer, he most likely dosent want or need your sympathy, but he deserves your respect.

Comment Big Ed made got me thinking...
Does it exist?
I acted like a jerk one day on a really big day at Nukes when a newb paddled his 10-6 right into the middle of the pack and almost took out me and my wife and 10 people in the area-i felt bad afterward but i told him to go elsewhere before he killed himself or someone else-looking back i think the comment was totally justified but its just not in my nature to be aggressive or combative. I paddled over to him on the way back where he was practicing on some smaller waves and apologized-he bailed me out and said he deserved it-thought he could handle the wave-i could tell he felt bad-so i hung around for a few waves and gave him some pointers-encouraged him to drop in on me on a small one and all was well.
Who else has been me?
Does that me an agressive local? Have i become that guy i say i cant stand?
No real need to answer i was just really typing out a hypothetical question but im interested in the thoughts of the guys that surf a lot.
