Started my life over in 2010 after a short marriage which led to divorce at the age of 30 so now Im a young 33yr old bachelor. Since then I have been able to get back around the water and do the activities that I truly missed. Well, my good friend relocated from FL to the Big Island of Hawaii (Honolulu to be exact) and has thoroughly enjoyed it and we're very much alike and he feels I would absolutely enjoy it out there.
So he proposed an idea that I had been tossing around for about a yr now since he left. Id have a place to stay for awhile until I got my feet wet and found a place of my own. I would hope that I wouldnt have a problem finding some work, as Im humble & open to almost anything that pays the bills and allows me to start over again, dont mind working multiple jobs if I had to. I have no ties to FL, single and no mortgage.
I really enjoy the water and the island life from my experiences in the past traveling. So Im putting in alot of effort to make this decision as thorough as possible. I know alot of zoners have had experience with Hawaii so Im reaching out to you guys/gals.
Ive been told that companies wont hire from the mainland and to just get there and find work. Bachelor degree, 8yrs sporting/entertainment/cust service mgmt, 7yrs HR exp as corporate recruiter & generalist, many yrs of hardwork outside/home renovations labor jobs throughout & after college.
Does it sound like a good decision and realistically what are the chances I'll be able to find something quickly to put my mind at ease?
I enjoy Florida but Ive always been someone to take on new life endeavors and risks.
Thanks for any feedback you can provide!!

As it was expected...GoPro released this version too early. I bought the GoPro Hero, Hero2 & now Hero3 all when they were first announced and each time (minus Hero1) release there have been bugs/kinks to deal with. Well this was no suprise but again I have to wait for an update for Mid Dec (but expect it to be delayed like every other update) before I can use the new Black edition to its full potential.
I have no complaints with the camera itself, but its always software updates that can annoy someone. I love the touchscreen bacpac and having a chance to have that plus the wifi built in as in before it was one or the other.
Had a chance to use this camera this weekend but the wifi doesnt work properly with the remote, we know the app wont work with it until the update and at times it locks up and requires a battery pull.
I'll be keeping the camera and will again patiently (i hope) the software fixes. I probably sold my Hero2 too early but had a friend line up to buy it and he needed it more than I at this time.
I'll try and upload a video in the next day or two so you can see its quality.

While Im having my board made, Im going to be without a board. Any suggestions on what to get or look for in the meantime just to keep me out on the water? It hurts looking out that window at the beautiful lake and not going out.
Could i pick up something on the cheap/generic side then maybe keep it as my backup for friends to use?

So I am having a custom Infinity 12'6 made by Steve...but my only dilemma is this... First question...trying to decide if I should just go with a two tone paint job or spend say triple the paint job cost on reproducing this paint job. I really like and it definitely caught my eye. Either way I want the orange & gray including the mouth on the front but just trying to decide if it'll be worth it to have him paint all those rivets/panels on it.

Watch out...this phone is sensitive! Never had an issue with the 4 for 2+ yrs but had a box resting on my leg and phone in pocket...too much pressure i guess and it shattered. Not even a month old lol

As i get deeper into my search for a new board, I have found the cost of of custom from them tailored to me actually cheaper than the production boards I had been looking at. I received great feedback from both Steve & Dave there.
So why havent I been able to dig up for info about their boards here on the zone? Just curious...do you local guys out there on the west coast know something I dont?

Please please help:) i know...another dang board question! Ive searched and read alot.
Ok...before I go rolling into my local shop, would like to reach out to you guys/gals bc his hours are so strange I have a hard time making it there. I know he carries other brands but throwing those out after reading reviews.
Since Im going to be selling off my current board, I have been researching performance 12'6 boards. (I am 5'11 160lbs), 14' wont be an option bc of storage purposes.
I paddle 4-5 days a week on a private lake with minimal boat wakes if any and its almost always butter or maybe 6" chop (yes thats 6 inches) lol
However, I would like to have a board where if I choose to enter a fun race or go out in the bay waters, intercoastals or maybe little chop in the gulf of mexico I could be alright. No large swells or surfing needed on this board. My current board is pretty wide for me and too much volume.
I have been looking at the Fanatic Fly and Imagine Sprinter but most comments Ive been finding are all on 14' boards though. Like to stay around $2100 also.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Just wanting to get a good foundation of knowledge before taking off work early one day to visit his shop.

Ok...so Ive only been doing the whole sup thing for less than a yr. have a 12'6 Boardworks "Woody" Raven. Paddle complete butter 99% of time and with the large volume of this board (ideal rider is over 200lbs) and Im only 160lbs soaking wet, I have to stand really far forward to dip the nose down. At some point, I know Im going to start doing some races, this board is almost 31" wide and feel like its almost too wide for me to paddle.
Im thinking of selling this board off to purchase more of a board suited to my size (5'11 & 160lbs) that would also be decent when I choose to race out in the gulf or bay.
I may have a buyer lined up...what do you think?

Ok guys...I know how these threads can go off target fast but looking for input.
I drive 36k miles a yr and have racked up over 130k miles on my suv over this time. Im not complaining about the gas mileage I get or cost of fuel but I clearly hate racking up all those miles on a brand new car and now its not worth crap bc of high mileage.
So Im looking at possibly getting a car at least until I stop driving so much for work. I spend alot of time in my car so comfort is a must. I know people are going to say Honda but Im sorry I cant go from luxury loaded suv to a stripped down cloth interior and basic electronics. Maybe theyve changed?? And im notknocking Hondas I just havent seen any up close in recent yrs besides my rentals.
As much as I want a bmw or audi i dont think buying one a few yrs old will work out once I start racking up mileage?? I could be wrong but has anyone driven a 335/5 series or a4 over 100k miles?
Ive had exp with infinitis & jettas. Both were nice and would fulfill my needs for a yr or two. Dont have a family and dont tow much anymore & dont transport my sup.
What are your thoughts?

Ive been doing sup since last November, was doing the whole intercoastal thing and now live on a lake. Over the last several months I have become more & more frustrated with my technique or lack of to where it hasnt been enjoying. My hours at work have limited me joining a few of the meetup groups or making it out for some on water instruction. That and my frustration with my paddle and trying to make it down to my local shop. I really want to enjoy sup like I did before and also to participate in some upcoming fun races but my mindset isnt right.
Any suggestions to regain the love?

This is not a discussion that I should have went with another brand of paddle...
I recently sent an email & FB post about seeing if there was a possible solution to my kanaha adj paddle issue. I have yet to hear anything back, cant reach someone on the phone & my local shop has left 2 messages:(
Any other suggestions??
