Prone Foiling, Surf foiling, Pump Foiling / FlexSeal
« on: June 26, 2021, 05:14:05 PM »
Has anyone tried using this for a bit more traction or grip.  I just got a new board and instead of extending/adding more traction pads, i thought about just spraying this from the end of the traction pad to the rails.  Wanted a bit more grip when i push off the board and also for duck diving.  Supposedly it dries to a rubber like feel.

thoughts?

SUP General / Opening day casualty

Well our beaches are finally open.  Excited to legally be out on the water.  After a fun few first rides, I lean into paddle for another wave and then I hear a loud snap, then i fall in.

I am used to falling in but then i look at my paddle.  I got a solid year out of this paddle.  I am bummed as I have really gotten used to this paddle.  Oh well, will be reaching out to Jim to see what my options here are, fix or replace with newer blade.  Does anyone have opinions on the UV blade for sup foiling?  Or others as compared to the Vdrive.

Foil SUP / SUP Foil board weight
« on: May 02, 2020, 09:57:32 AM »
So recently I have had a lot of time to stare at my equipment and contemplate how to optimize it.  I am on my second foil sup.  Went from a 7'9 to a 6'6.  The 6'6 has ~125l and weighs 17lbs.  My first one was a lot heavier due to its size.  But was wondering as these boards are now in the 6' range are they all pretty similar weights.

Anyway wanted to see what others' boards weigh.  Don't know if dropping board dimensions would significantly drop the weight.

Thanks, now i am going back to staring at my dry equipment :)

Classifieds / Armstrong 70cm Fuselage
« on: March 30, 2020, 01:17:09 PM »
Near new condition.  Used for couple of months.  Some minor scuffs from where it connected to the mast, very superficial.  Great for stability (learning, tow in and winging). $350

Here is what Arnie says:
The TC70 is our most popular fuselage length in our range for the all round rider. The longer length gives more overall stability and provides a more powerful pumping action.
The Armstrong HEX Fuselage is a ground breaking work of art in terms of engineering and design.
The fuselage has a solid Titanium core running throughout its length. The core is then shrouded in 5mm solid wall Carbon tube. The multi wing HEX fitting for the mast and front wing gives 360 degree surface contact, maximising the load distributing area.
This unique fuselage construction easily handles the highly leveraged opposing flex loads as the mast and wings are directly keyed into the Titanium core, taking your ride to the next level. Weight: 425g

Foil SUP / Any Lift Foil reviews

Not the eFoil.

I fondled one over the weekend and noticed that they were considerably lighter and the build quality was pretty impressive.  They have a new modular setup to interchange wings.  I just havent seen one out in the lineup.  I talked to a prone guy who uses it and he loves it.  Just was wondering how it would be under a SUP.  thanks.

SUP General / Value of older SUPs
« on: September 08, 2019, 09:35:57 AM »
Curious to what you guys are seeing or think about the value of an older SUP (5-10 years old).  I am thinking about picking up an inexpensive surf sup to occasionally join my sup surfing friends.  I am seeing some older sups ie 2012 sups listed at 600-900.

Wonder what is a reasonable price for something that old?  Plus I am assuming that the epoxy sandwich boards probably last longer than the hand layed up ones do.

Thanks for your thoughts here.

For those of you who are familiar with Erik Antonson, he has started foiling podcasts.

Pretty interesting to listen to, especially if you can listen to while at work :)

here is the latest with Zane.  Sound was a bit off, but there are some nuggets of info.

Foil SUP / Mast position in tracks vary by wave size
« on: July 22, 2019, 10:03:16 AM »
Just picked up a new Foil Sup with tracks as opposed to tuttle.  Was curious if you guys change your mast position when conditions change or just leave it in the same location.  I have had it out a handful of sessions and feel like i have a good position for when the waves have some push.  Was planning on experimenting tomorrow but wanted to know what the brain trust thought here :)

For your troubles, below are pix of my new board.  Not as sexy as wings but still eye candy.

« on: April 25, 2019, 10:58:06 AM »
Well looks like Quiksilver is now including foiling in its designs.  So must be getting some recognition if our designers are including it:)  Look closely and you can see the foil and a paddle.
