The Shape Shack / Hot coat poly or eppxy
« on: November 11, 2019, 02:30:38 AM »
Hi guys

Just a question for the glassers out there.
Just finishing off my sup foil board.
I was just wondering if I could use polyester over epoxy just for the filler coat? Any advantages or disadvantage ?
cost is a big one for me and drying time.
I was just wondering if it cracks or delaminates etc.
I will rub the board first for it to key.
Cheers

Foil SUP / Good paddler head scratcher
« on: June 11, 2019, 10:39:05 PM »
I have a question to the foil board riders or board builders.
I have built a few boards as a project for myself to foil on.
I have a green board that is 7'6" x 32" x 4 3/4"
Which is good to paddle or better to paddle than the grey board,
The grey board is 7'6" x 32" x 5" with i full bevaled rail.
I built the grey board lighter than the green board,
green board 11.5kgs
Grey board 9kgs
Grey board flat bottom
Green slight concave
What am I missing, why would green paddle  heaps better than grey ie: less row/yaw effect
What can I do to make grey paddle better ?
Was thinking of routing a 20mm channel in the bottom towards the front or putting sharp rails on the rear?
Don't know rooky problems....
Please help it's driving me nuts that I can't get a decent paddle speed...
Cheers

Foil SUP / Wing boyancy
« on: November 12, 2018, 04:27:17 PM »
Hi guys

Just after the facts about boyancy for anyone has been through this process.
I have made a huge wing, but to keep the wieght down i built it out of polystyrene. Then carbon wrapped.
The only problem i have is the boyancy of the wing, it has that much volume that it pushes the board out of the water.
I was thinking of just removing the polystyrene and replacing with a more dense foam like the expanding foam that you put into cavitys.
How would the volume differ between the 2 foams?
I know polystyrene has heaps of air, maybe i need to set up a test piece.

The Shape Shack / What bottom/ rail shape for 7'2"
« on: June 12, 2018, 04:10:34 AM »
Hi folks
I just wanted to ask for advice.
I am currently about to start making a new 7'2" foil board.
I only build boards for the love of it, i just need to ask, what bottom/rail shape should i use so that the thing tracks really well.?
I have built a 7'6" sup foil board which is my goto board, i have put bevelled rails for 3/4 of the board then hard rails at the rear, single concave going into double concave at the rear.
This board is good and does the job but it is a little to heavy at 11kgs, i think i might have put to much nose rocker in also 7".
So this time i have a very flat rocker with 4.5" of nose rocker and a tail kick.
Sort of a down wind shape rocker.
Should i put in a single concave from the front to back to help track and fast paddler, with bevelled parallel rails.
Or do i single to double concave, or flat ???.
Im lost any input would be awesome 😀
Thanks

Foil SUP / Gofoil humming problem
« on: April 18, 2018, 02:50:48 AM »
Hi
Recently bought a gofoil maliko 200 over the moon with the quality.
I have got out on the foil from brand new so no damage,i had one small ride on the foil but she hum's.
Does anybody no the fix for this? Both wings are tight, but the rear only tightens up in the last 4mm, i suspect the rear wing.
Any ideas how to stop it humming?
Thanks
Steve
