Share the Stoke / Bolle' has me stoked
« on: July 09, 2010, 06:54:34 AM »
I entered a contest several months ago to design a kaleidescope for free sunglasses. Was notified yesterday that I was one of 6 chosen to receive two pairs of sunglasses of my choice with lenses of my choice. Woo-hoo!!! Had to revise choices to include wifey.......was not gonna be able to get outta the doghouse if I didn't. What made the day was I had just broke a bone in my foot or toe...toe was completely sideways and the news of the contest took out some of the sting of the injury.

Random / lionfish sighting
« on: June 05, 2010, 01:06:30 PM »
Was out snorkeling with my 5 and 10 yr olds having a great time spotting all kinds of local species and then BAM!!! My first sighting of the invasive lionfish. It was in five feet of water, less than 100ft from shore hanging out with a bunch of Mangrove Snapper, a cow fish, and a few other locals. Darn good teachable moment for the kids, finger waving in front of thier masks with the wave back so as to give him his room. You could tell he was getting ticked off, flaring out his fins. I have to admit I was kinda stoked to see it.  Made the necessary reports.

Gear Talk / Stubborn 12" Rainbow Racweed fin.
« on: February 22, 2010, 02:09:16 PM »
I recieved my CWP 12" Raceweed bamboo fin. Only problem is that it is proving to be a bit of a bugger to install. My board has a 10.5" Fins Unlimited box. I have been able to use a regular longboard "D" fin, although it was a tight fit and had the rear screw and plate. The Raceweed has the front tab. I think I am sinking it enough to allow the post the correct position to slide back in the track. It is a tight fit but I am kinda worried that I'll torque it to much and bust the glass around the box.

Anyone have any tips or advice on getting this guy in without damaging the box.  :-\

Downwind and Racing / Fin choices...
« on: December 31, 2009, 03:48:53 PM »
 :-\

I am looking to buy a new fin for my 14' George Robinson. I will mainly be training, distance, and outside reef swell catching, and maybe an occasional and casual race. The water here varies in depth and sometimes abruptly. I am undecided with the line of Rainbow fins. I see from previous posts that the Raibow CWP RACE is a great all around fin and think that the angle back would be good for shedding grass, weed, and trash but for downwinders, not sure. I think a total upright Seeker could be more stable in open ocean but too risky for the near shore. Either Seeker 10" 11" 12" or 13" or CWP RACE 10" or 12"
If anyone could offer advice or opinions I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Downwind and Racing / George Robinson 14'
« on: November 16, 2009, 02:17:22 PM »
After much deliberation and research I decided have a board made local (FL) by, George Robinson. Waiting on my pad, paddle, and eventually a designated racing or touring fin. 14' x 28" x 4 1/4". George was great to work with and Seven Sports in Islamorada made it all mo' bettah.  Can't wait to take off. I'll try and post some better shots as they come in.
