SoCal / Colorado Zoner in SoCal Turkey Week.
« on: November 22, 2019, 07:05:13 AM »
Doesn't look like much in terms of swell forecast, but I'm still frothing cause there's snow in the yard again here today.

Staying near the pier in San Clemente and planning to surf SanO and perhaps near the pier depending on crowds there. Likely a family prone lesson session at Doheny as well.

Anybody up for an am surf session pls shout.

I see fair potential for rain in the forecast. Any suggestions on when to make the call to stay out of the water?
Does SanO get cleaned out by tide change fairly quickly if the rains are not super heavy?

Thanks All.

SUP General / Tofino Paddle Surf Camp 2019 with FRP
« on: June 03, 2019, 11:54:08 AM »
HUGE thanks to Bob aka FRP for amazing Tofino hospitality this past week. I was in Tofino with my family and hoping to surf in the mornings with a fellow SUPster. I reached out to Bob prior to my trip, and we ended up surfing together three mornings in a row.
It was great to share some waves with a local, passionate SUP surfer eager to share his knowledge and love of Tofino's various surf spots.

We saw seals, sea lions, bald eagles and even a handful of other paddle surfers out in the lineup. Tofino is an insanely beautiful spot. I highly recommend it if you get the chance to go.

I took a knock to my noggin on the first day due to pilot error and Bob loaned me one of his spare surf helmets for the remainder of the trip. On top of that, he invited me and my family over for an amazing dinner where we met Jasper the yellow lab and a couple of neighbors who are passionate surfers as well.
Fantastic trip all in all.
This note isn't to brag but rather to acknowledge and appreciate the fact that despite lots of negative junk on the internet you can still use forums like this one to connect with wonderful people thousands of miles away.
Thanks again Bob!
Cheers,
Dan from CO

SUP General / Newbie Vids

Couple vids of a real live newbie figuring things out in the ocean and the river...
Thanks again to Creek for the initial motivation to pickup a GoPro. I moved it to the nose of the board in Costa Rica so I could analyze my poor footwork and paddle technique.

Happy Monday Y'all!

SUP General / RAW Kook hat footage (for Dads)
« on: January 02, 2018, 03:55:19 PM »
It ain't pretty, but I'll remember the experience forever.

I lugged a 9' 6" inflatable out to Dana point with the intent of getting my ocean-fearing girl on a small wave. It worked.

Few misses/wipeouts and then a monster 1 footer into shore.

Thanks again to SuptheCreek for the kook camera tip!

Lots to learn on editing...

SUP General / Newbie in Dana Point area Dec 26-31
« on: December 15, 2017, 09:01:27 AM »
Been lurking and reading tons of content here for a month or so and loving all the knowledge. You guys have a great online community that appears to be totally absent of trolls. Quite refreshing.

As a side note, I really get a kick out of an online forum where a bunch of guys list their height and weight!

Me... 6'1" 148 lbs.

I'm landlocked in CO and ride MTBs a bunch, but I'm recently addicted to SUP surfing. Surfing rivers here on short inflatables in the summer is fun, but the ocean waves are much more funner.  ;D

Reaching out to see if any Zoners may be up for a session or two at SanO or Doheny late Dec? I'll be juggling family time so dawn patrol to 10 am is my most likely window.

I'm at the point where I can catch waves moderately consistently based on my last outing at Sano couple weeks back, but making a bottom turn and looking down the line still escape me. Need to work on moving my damn feet and looking where I want to go instead of the front of the board...

Studying tons of video and psyched to get out again and work on improving. If anybody's up for meeting up please shout.

On a second note, I'm riding an 8' 1'' Naish Mana 133L. Bit of a gear freak and I'll have a double travel bag with me so looking to pick up something a bit smaller and sportier that I can grow with as I progress. Just not much of a used market here in the mountains... Craigslist seems to have some pretty decent options in Orange County and San Diego area. I'd certainly appreciate any leads on something ~8 ft ish in the 100L-ish range or perhaps even a tad smaller. I know I'll fall in a lot initially...

Thanks Fellas!
Dan in CO
