Gear Talk / Torn between Hala and Red Paddle
March 27, 2021, 11:37:24 AM
Lately I've been thinking about getting a second board and using my Hala Carbon Hoss as a loaner now for when wanting to paddle with someone that doesn't have one. My current Hala is a tank but it's been a great board for what I've used it for which is to learn and have fun on. Now I'm ready for speed and touring.

I've been eyeballing 2 boards.
First one is the Carbon Hala Nass-T 14'
Second one is the Red Paddle Voyager 13'2"

I'm leaning towards the Hala because of the construction, length, looks, and it's more narrow so I think for speed, it's a no brainer.

Anybody own either of these for feedback?

Stumbled across this video and I just had to share it!! Both him and the ISUP he used took a beating! It's a long video but really cool to watch. Shows an abundance of patience along with a fantastic sense of adventure! Enjoy!✌

SUP General / Which paddle do YOU own?
April 07, 2020, 02:52:47 PM
After tooling around and seeing some really cool looking graphics on some paddles like the KeNalu on this site. The the Kialoa which I currently own is ok but damn I've seen some great ones and my oh my are they proud of them.

Soooo, which one do you have and maybe some pics or links?

Gear Talk / Accent or Red Paddle?
April 06, 2020, 09:21:44 PM
Howdy all!
Hope this finds you, your family and friends in good health!

I'm going to be buying a second board and I need some advice on which paddle would be best. If anything it may end up as a backup depending on how it performs compared to the Kialoa I currently use with my first board which I'm pretty happy with.

The two options I have to chose from are either the Accent Octane Carbon OR the Red Alloy. Both are 3 piece.

One thing that stands out for me is on the Accent and the ease of adjustment which has the same style as my Kialoa. I don't have a clue how the Red Paddle adjusts in comparison.

Oh and I'm landlocked so this is strictly lakes and reservoirs.

Other than that, any feedback and advice would be greatly appreciated. ✌

So now I'm eyeballing another board for cruising/expedition.

I'm pretty happy with my Hala Carbon Hoss and it might actually suffice for my plans so I'm not sure if I'll even buy a second board but I'm curious about a couple of things.

So, the main use for the board or any other board is to go on lakes. I may try a lazy river if the feeling is right. I am considering doing some camping style paddling now with the group I'm a part of and lead outings in.

I recently bought a cooler(Ozark Trail) that I've taken out and it's a great addition for keeping things nice and cold. It's completely waterproof too. Only thing I don't like about it is how tall it sits. Anyhow, it takes up some room at the front and not sure about loading camping gear to the mix. Which is why I'm debating buying a longer board now to hold a tent, sleeping bag, chair, stove etc.

Maybe somebody out there has used any of the three boards mentioned and can give some feedback.

Who knows, maybe I'm over thinking this. LOL!

I've seen some reviews regarding the tracking differences between the red paddle boards and that the 12'6" tracks better in rougher waters but that's about it.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Gear Talk / Gopro Fusion. Anybody have one yet?
October 07, 2017, 05:19:56 PM
I own the first Gopro version and the Gopro 4 Silver with the MKE 2 elements. Really love the MKE 2. Has made recording amazing.

I had no idea Gopro came out with a 6 let alone the Fusion.

Curious if anybody has the Fusion and feedback on it.

Thanks.

Gear Talk / Mounting a Gopro to your inflatable
August 25, 2017, 08:05:56 AM
While I was at the store going through the initial process of blowing up my board, learning everything about it, the pump etc., I asked the owner about mounting my Gopro or two on my board and he said that the usual pads and glue wouldn't be enough. I was kinda baffled and mentioned to him that I had a mount on my sea kayak that is still there and come to think of it I had one on my stand up jet ski that never failed me. He mentioned a special process which involved a glue or cement that would be best.

Maybe I'm missing something just due to the different material on an SUP inflatable compared to a polymer material on the sea kayak and fiberglass on the jet ski?

What do you guys and gals think?
Have you had issues?
Will the standard Gopro mounting adhesive work?

I just came across this board and am curious if anybody has information or owns one. It looks pretty cool and complete but not sure on quality.

I saw a couple of posts but no responses and a few years back.

It's a complete package AND inflatable.

Anyone?

Thanks!

SouthWest / Calling all Colorado region SUPers!!!
August 22, 2017, 02:27:18 PM
I'm trying to gauge how many Colorado folks are on here.

That way if there's a bunch of us we can post here for meet and greets and paddle outings.

Anybody up for that?

Gear Talk / BP20 or equivalent?
August 18, 2017, 07:17:05 PM
Anyone own the BP20? If so, how is it?

Have something equivalent to it with the built in rechargeable battery?

I'd love to buy the BP20 but DAMN it's pricey!! 295.00 bucks!! Ouch!!

I believe it came out earlier this year?

I really love the fact that it's completely cordless!!!

Gear Talk / Looking for a good choice for a paddle
August 15, 2017, 05:56:04 PM
I'm now looking for a good beginner paddle. One that I looked at is the Hala Grafik lock and load carbon shaft travel.
The second one is the the Hala Rival clamp and pin travel carbon shaft.

Both are less than 200 bucks. Both just over 1lb.

Suggestions or praise on these or others?

I've just put an order in for a Hala Carbon Hoss and can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'll try really really hard not to drool on it after I open the box!😛

This is a two part question for all the inflatable owners out there. Start off by calling out what brand and model you own.

1) How long have you owned yours and what condition is it in so far?

AND

2) Do you roll yours up, keep it semi deflated and standing somewhere or completely deflated laying flat?

My curiosity or concern is if the whole rolling up and unrolling process is taking it's toll on yours. The seems etc I'm sure get tired after a while. Who knows, maybe not.

Gear Talk / Inflatables-Isle, Tower, Elevate OR ?
August 08, 2017, 10:42:12 AM
Howdy to all!!

Just got approved and been searching and searching and reading and searching.

I'm out in Colorado and have recently decided to get into SUPing and add to an already long list of "ING" things I do here.

I've been looking into and have narrowed my search down to 3 choices.
1) ISLE series
2) Elevate series
3) Tower series

My stats are 6'3", 225, 51. Newbie looking to just paddle around lakes, reservoirs AND potentially get into easy river runs.

I have found the above sup's priced from 800-945.
Lengths from 9'-14' and up to 8" thick.
One reviewer mentioned the 8" one (tower explorer 14'er) being a real pain to get back into because of the thickness of it.
Then of course there's the MONSTER ISLE Megalodon 15' 8" at 1295.00 that can hold 1050lbs!! LOL.

My question is pretty much the same as I'm sure a lot have asked but since I was seeing dates back to 2015 I figured I would begin a new one since I'm sure things have changed since.

What would be a good choice?
Comparing
Quality
Stability
Speed (I know, the mega is a tank so let's not worry about that one )
Agility

Right now I'm taking a serious look at either the
Isle Explorer@ 895 -12'
Isle Sportsman@945- 11' 6"
Elevate all around@799-10'6"
Elevate touring ISUP@849-12'6"
Tower Explorer@799-14'

Suggestions?
Feedback?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions offered. :D
