Lightning Bolt Maui Movie Night Glass Love Movie starts at 8pm





‘Glass Love’ is a beautiful surfing film which shows all those who see it why surfing is the greatest sport of them all. Featured in ‘Glass Love’ are some of the most important surfers of the last 30 years including TOM and PAT CURREN, WAYNE LYNCH, MP, RABBIT, SKIP FRYE, OSCAR WRIGHT and DEREK HYND.

ANDREW KIDMAN is an artist, musician and filmmaker. He embodies a time when surfing was all about getting back to nature and enjoying the ocean in a more spiritual sense rather than the hi-octane, corporate-sponsored world surfing has become.

Over the last five years I have been involved in the creation of Glass Love.

Surfing in itself is a beautiful form; taking place in diverse locations with complex characters; I had ideas I wanted to articulate through motion and sound incorporating this. The process has been a lengthy one because to capture and present it with the meaning and feelings which surfers experience takes time. Also, the ideas I had changed with every wave that passed and with every person that I met and knew.

In the film I wanted to feature the generational link and love of surfing that gets passed down through families, in particular through the Curren and Purchase families. The sons are surfers and their fathers are surfer/shapers. It was nice to peek in on a small part of their relationships and how surfing makes them special. This, and the continued experimentation with board design were the highlights for me in making this film

Big Clean swell here with light wind this morning.  Went out for a few. Only managed to get in to one. Late drop with nowhere to go. But i was determined not to fall.


Managed to stay standing and took it right to the beach.

Fiji is the destination for some intrepid surfers on this program. Some of the waves are highly dangerous and usually regarded as off-limits to surfers, making this a real treat for adrenaline addicts.

Surfed early morning. It was small but clean. When i got out of the water around 9 Sergio called me to tell me he was shooting up the coast and to get over there. I jumped in my truck and headed over, got me gear got in the line up and the wind came right up. I was struggling with the wind but did manage to get 2 waves. Both waves sucked. Got caught behind the peak and all i got was a bottom turn and nothing else. I did not give Sergio much to work with yet he still got a few nice looking photos. He made the waves look much better then they had been in reality. That is the sign of a good photographer. Making nothing look like something good.

Another test with the paddle camera. It was not very sunny but at least it was not raining for this test. so there were less water drops on this video. 
   People were very interested in being on the video as witnessed by the photo slut at the end of the video grabbing at the camera to get more time in front of the camera. Some people will do anything to get on Camera. I guess he is more well know as the voice of the Geico Gecko but looks like he wants people to see his face now also.

Byron lent me his Gopro camera. I sat up last night and figured out a way to mount the camera on my paddle. Thanks Byron

 Once I mounted the Gopro on my paddle I went for a ride. It was a cloudy day but the footage was not bad.

It was a first attempt.
