Classifieds / Axis 999 virtually new condition
« on: September 10, 2022, 01:46:25 PM »
Axis ART 999 front foil wing – virtually perfect condition (a couple of small cosmetic scratches that are so shallow they don’t need sanding). Used maybe 4 times (turns out I prefer the HPS wings). Comes with cover and 316 (A4) hardware.  $483 plus actual shipping charges.  Photos at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/5f0dyvl3tkee9di/AABLgdL_nFP7ufOWpeBiIfrJa?dl=0

Improved technique and (especially) having a 7 meter F1 CWC have allowed me to foil in lighter winds, which I am really enjoying. However, I find that if the wind is light enough that I have to pump the wing like crazy to get on foil, it is really hard for me to jibe without the wing collapsing against me before I can get it to attach flow on the new tack. I know this is because I am going close to the same speed as the wind as I head directly downwind – I just don’t know what to do about it.  Trying to aggressively push the wing to the new side has not worked. Best I’ve done is to try to pump the foil through sharp turns at relatively low speeds, but that hasn’t always worked.  Grateful for any solutions or advice – thanks!!!

Axis BCS 1060 front, 400 freeride rear, short red fuse, ultrashort red fuse, and mounting hardware.  Great rig to learn and progress for wingdinging – I’ve moved on to the Axis black fuse wings, but this rig got me through jibing and foot switches and was really fun and easy to use.  Everything in good shape – 1060 has a few scratches sanded down. $675 shipped in the US. Classifieds / Project Cedrus 36-inch carbon mast
« on: September 02, 2021, 02:58:42 PM »
Project Cedrus first generation 36-inch universal mast used only one time!  These masts are strong, stiff, and light! They will work with almost any foil brand except Armstrong, but it will cost you about $120 to get an adapter from Kyle at  https://projectcedrus.com/compatibility/    I have had this mast since 2019 but have only used the identically-fabricated 27-inch Cedrus mast for wingdinging (many, many times, and still using it with zero issues.).  Decided to order a 31 inch Cedrus, so I am selling the long one.  New ones are $950 – asking $525 for this one.  I can sell you the board mount adapter (140x90) for $100, or you can order the connection of your choice when you get an adapter from Project Cedrus.  And if you have new Cloud 9 foils, I can throw in the fuse adapter for free! Buyer pays shipping. Pics at  https://www.dropbox.com/s/6t8rvlczcarwvxk/cedrus%201.jpeg?dl=0   and   https://www.dropbox.com/s/u1lob7sxg5o87rg/cedrus%202.jpeg?dl=0

Axis 1150 with cover -- very good condition -- has two areas with minor scratches from crab traps that I've sanded smooth (shown in pics) -- neither has any effect on performance or integrity of the wing.  Asking $425.  Pick up on Outer Banks or will ship in US for $40.

I have generally put my wrist leash (to the wing) on loose because it can then freely rotate around my wrist and avoid twists and wraps. Never had any issues in 5+ months of winging 3-4 times a week.  Today was maybe a little looser than usual, and the gust that hit while the wing was free on the water was pretty strong, but the leash cuff just pulled straight off over my wrist and hand and the wing was gone downwind.  Wind was ~20 mph gusting to high 20s, mostly sideshore but very slightly onshore in a pretty shallow sound.

I chased it prone paddling on my (90 liter) board, and to my surprise I could almost keep up with it – but never come closer than about 50 meters.  And prone paddling is way more work than winging!  After 8/10 of a mile a good Samaritan kiter grabbed it and held it till I could get there, and I foiled back upwind to our launch. Without the kiter, it was probably another half mile till the wing would have hit shore.

Could have been a lot worse.  I post this in case any of you are as foolish as me in thinking that a loose wrist connection is safe.  The answer is usually but not always.

Hot Sails Maui Hotwing 3.0 – unique two-piece carbon boom that is kind of a cross between the Duotone boom and handles.   Photos at https://tinyurl.com/y7d4lj2r   Video (not me)  @ https://www.seatexboards.com/hotwheels-no-hotwings/   . The wing feels pretty similar to my F1 Swings, but it turns out I prefer handles to booms.  Used twice on the water and once with a skateboard, perfect shape. Hi Zoners -

I'll be in Hood River next week and am planning to rent from Big Winds and use their shuttle for a couple of downwinders. A couple of questions I can't find easy answers to:

1. Is a neoprene shirt enough warmth for late July for most people, or should I pack a shortie?
2. Will I need to bring shoes to enter and get out of the river, or do bare feet work OK for most of you?

Of course, I'm also grateful for any general or specific advice.  I've done 25-30 downwinders on a 14-foot fixed-fin board above 20 knots, but in smaller conditions than what I think I'll see there.  The Big Winds board selection looks good, and I'm assuming that their paddles are also OK.

Thanks for any help.

Andy
