SUP General / Seattle Times Article on SUP Related Drownings
« on: July 29, 2019, 08:55:36 PM »
The Seattle Times published an article today about three recent drownings in the state of Washington.  Really sad - no leash or PFD.  The article never mentions the use of a leash for safety and only focuses on PFD usage.  It did make some good points on educating users.

Seattle Times published an article today on the recent three drownings in the state of Washington this year during stand up paddling.  None of the paddlers were wearing or pfd or leash.  Really too bad.  https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/life-jacket-lottery-3-have-drowned-while-paddleboarding-this-year-in-western-washington/?utm_source=marketingcloud&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=TSA_072919232008+Paddleboarding-related+deaths+are+increasing.+Here%27s+how+to+stay+safe_7_29_2019&utm_term=Active%20subscriber

Foil SUP / GoFoil M280
« on: February 19, 2018, 09:09:34 PM »
Just got a GoFoil M280 two weeks ago and learning how to foil on Puget Sound.  I am finally getting it to foil with short rides of 10 to 15 seconds.  I also have the M200 wing.  Wondering if anyone else is using the M280 and what they think of it.  It has been really tough but learning slowly how to do it.  What a blast when it stands up out of the water and flies.  I haven't tried the M200 wing but with the smallish waves here on the sound, I think the M280 is probably the best bet.

Gear Talk / Applying RSPro Rail Tape
« on: March 18, 2015, 09:18:49 PM »
What is the best way to apply RSPro rail tape ?  I have applied other brands of rail tape on my boards using a squirt bottle
with water and a little soap and apply the soap solution on the rail and the tape.  Do you use the same method for
RSPro tape ?  Or do you apply it dry ?

Gear Talk / 2015 Bark Dominator D2 versus 2015 SIC X-14 Pro
« on: January 08, 2015, 11:22:53 PM »
I will be replacing my Bark Dominator this year with a new flat-water race board.  I am looking for a narrower 14ft board down to 26 inches.  The 2015 Bark Dominator D2 looks like a great board.  I am also considering the 2015 SIC X-14 Pro.  Both boards look great for racing and just moving quickly through flat-water and chop.  Has anyone compared these two boards for flat-water and/or choppy conditions ?

Gear Talk / 2015 Red Paddle Co. 14ft Elite
« on: January 08, 2015, 09:31:11 AM »
Has anyone tried out the new 2015 Red Paddle Co.  Elite 14ft ?  It looks interesting with the capability of using any type of
fin.  Curious about the nose fin and whether it really provides directional tracking.  Red Paddle is indicating it is also a good downwinder.
It looks like from the design it will have less flex with respect to the other inflatable designs.

Gear Talk / 2014 Naish 14 LE 26 inch
« on: April 19, 2014, 06:52:31 PM »
Has anyone tried out the 2014 Naish 14 LE 26 inch board? It looks very good and possibly a great board for both flat water and downwinding.  If anyone
has one or has paddled one, let me know what you think of it.

Gear Talk / 2012 Naish Glide 14 - Columbia River
« on: March 24, 2012, 08:28:53 AM »
Has anyone tried the new 2012 Naish Glide 14 on the Columbia River ?  Does it perform as well as the 2011 in the short period waves you would find at Hood River ?  Any issues with the short pad that is on the new Glide - stepping back and slipping off the board ?

Gear Talk / SIC Boards for DW in Pacific Northwest
« on: March 04, 2012, 11:02:39 AM »
I would like to get some input on SIC boards and on how they perform in the Pacific Northwest for downwinding.  The Columbia River and Puget Sound typically have shorter period waves which is much different than an open ocean condition which it appears the SIC boards are designed for. I am currently using a Glide 14.  The SIC boards of interest are:

SIC F-16V2
SIC Bullet
SIC ???

Ponobill - maybe you have some comments.

Events / Kalama Kamp - Hood River - Downwinding
« on: August 23, 2011, 12:24:20 AM »
The Kalama Kamp I attended in Hood River was fantastic.  Dave Kalama is an incredible
teacher.  He is able to bring his knowledge of SUP and downwinding down to any level.  Brody Welte and John Denney also were great teachers.  We started with a day of basic paddling techniques and then the next day started the downwind runs.  It was fun getting to know all the folks who attended the kamp and hope to see you all again soon. I would recommend anyone who wants to learn proper technique for SUPing and downwinding, surfing, etc... to sign up for a Kalama Kamp.  Dave, Brody and John really make it a great time.
