General Discussion / SIC Okeanos reviews?
« on: June 08, 2021, 05:07:12 AM »
Would love some feedback on the Okeanos. I currently paddle a 14x26 BIC Tracer WS. I am looking for better performance in chop and open water. I don't race, but paddle 5x/week for fitness and do some overnight trips.

SUP General / Inflatable vs Hardboard: performance
« on: May 27, 2021, 04:42:37 AM »
I paddle a BIC Tracer WS, really like it. I am a 5x/week fitness paddler, not a racer. I do enjoy going out in a variety of conditions but live inland, so that means "calm" to most of you. I do like touring and adventure paddling where I feel like my BIC has to be treated with kid gloves: anyplace I am going to paddle is very rocky with challenging landings. I have been considering selling the BIC and going to an inflatable for the durability in those conditions. What am I giving up in terms of performance? I have spent some time on a RED 12 6 Race. I find it still has a "flexy" feel. I also find it feels like it's sitting "on" the water as opposed to "in" the water (if that makes sense). Any input is appreciated.

Downwind and Racing / Great lakes downwinders?
« on: September 04, 2018, 03:42:54 AM »
I paddle mostly flatwater, a little whitewater, want to start doing more downwinding. I am a couple of hours from both Lake O and GBay. Any Great Lakes downwinders here? Tis the season for good inland swell.

Flatwater and Touring / 2014 Bark Expedition 14': feedback
« on: June 12, 2018, 08:28:40 AM »
Looking for a tripping/open water board and one of these popped up at a good price. I can't find much info on this specific model, would love to know if anyone has feedback: pros and cons. I already have lightweight 14 for training and hammering around the flats. I am looking for something that can handle a load and messy conditions. Thanks.

Flatwater and Touring / Werner bent shaft: any users?
« on: May 24, 2018, 03:52:20 AM »
I have been using a Werner Grand Prix for the past 2 seasons and loved it. But someone decided to liberate it from my car. I have the chance to get a Grand Prix bent shaft at a good deal, wondering if folks have experience with them. Pros? Cons? Thanks.

SUP General / BIC customer service: need help
« on: July 28, 2017, 01:06:53 PM »
I recently posted a question about my BIC Tracer, which has developed a crack around the finbox after less than 1 year. I have sent pics to BIC, as well as to the the shop that sold me the board. I had 2 questions:
1. Is this a warranty issue?
2. If not, could I get some advice on how to repair it myself.

2 1/2 weeks and still no word from BIC. Local shop has put in a RA, but they have no news. Has anyone else had warranty experience with BIC? Any suggestions? I usually paddle 6 days/week, starting to get a bit flabby ;)

Flatwater and Touring / BIC Tracer vs WS Tracer
« on: July 24, 2017, 01:38:06 PM »
I have been paddling a regular 14x28 Tracer (298 L). Looks like it might be replaced by a 14x26 WS Tracer (270 L). My worry, at 175 lbs, is that the WS Tracer will be too low volume in rougher water. I mostly paddle inland lakes, but do like to paddle on Georgian Bay in windy conditions. Any input?

SUP General / Crack around finbox: advice please
« on: July 10, 2017, 02:30:05 PM »
Noticed a crack around the finbox on my touring board. I must have hit a rock that I don't remember. The box is still firm, no wobble or movement that I can discern. Normally, I would repair this with mastic epoxy. Any advice is appreciated.
1. Can I just patch this, or should the box be removed and reinstalled?
2. If patch is the way to go, is mastic epoxy the best choice?
3. Best way to make sure that the inside of the board is dry before patching?
Thanks.
