Sunova SUP / Sunova Balsa Paddles
« on: January 04, 2019, 06:52:46 AM »
Sorry if these have been reported on already, but just noticed these on their website, look beauty! Anyone out there have some time with them, how's the flex?

Blade size is perfect but don't want it to stiff, found that my shoulders like a little softer flex!

Cheers,
JB

Gear Talk / BigBoy 12' Sunova Search
« on: December 17, 2018, 07:27:16 AM »
I thought some fellow Zoners would like to follow this custom build so I start a dedicated thread. Christmas present to myself!

It all started like this: Thought this would be fun and appealing to the big boys out there, and after seeing that beautiful Sunova "Nozza" Search.

My Specs: 6'3", 230#trunking, 53yo, decent all around waterman. I've sent Bert, Tino & Rick an inquiry with my ideas/mods on a custom using the 12' Search 12x30"x4.5" 179L as a starter. I want a 12' board to access Pt Breaks  that are a couple miles out, want it to be a good paddler w/glide and max stability that can surf 2' to 10'.

Well we've settled in with the following and I can't wait to surf it.

Basic dims 12' x 32" x 4.75" @ 198L. Emerald Green Resin Tint

Cheers!

I know this isn't SUP but Rick hooked me up with a Sunova Boss surfboard that is now my favorite KiteStick, super light and totally bomber, these things make killer kitesurfing boards! 8)

Gear Talk / Concept Sunova: Big Boy Bombora
« on: November 09, 2018, 06:48:24 AM »
Thought this would be fun and appealing to the big boys out there, and after seeing that beautiful Sunova "Nozza" Search, it got me thinking. Thought I would post here and see where it goes.

I look fwd to Bert's feedback.

Below are my suggested mods:
~ 5 Fin setup. want to run Quad and Single fin
~ Bump width and/or thickness to add stability & volume for my size. Q; does added rail curve help turning?
~ Round pintail
~ Maybe add a little nose kick?
~ 2x leash plugs and a nose GoPro/FCS plug
~ Updated new and improved carry handle?

I've checked out the Atlantis Venom & Jimmy Lewis Bombora type boards to incorporate into the Search design. Look fwd to everyones thoughts.

Wonder if there's anyone else out there who would be into a board like this?

Cheers,
JB (RbGar)

Gear Talk / Running Quad with a little stubbie?
« on: February 24, 2018, 11:56:44 AM »
Ok have played with different size quad sets after deciding I prefer quad over thruster with the majority of surf I ride is never bigger then just overhead.

Just saw a couple YouTube vids about adding a little stubbie to tighten it up just a tad without the over finned feel. So I cut down a plastic fin and going to give it a try, I'll prob cut the aft tab off to get it further back...

Anyone try this, thoughts?

Casual invite: I live in Little Compton RI where I kite, SUP and surf all over but I've never down winded on my 14'. The Sakonnet river seems perfect for it, SW winds Sakonnet Point to Fogland or NW Island Park to Fogland. Be nice to have buddy so let me know when a little warmer temps start to fill in. Cheers, JB

Gear Talk / Quad fin question
« on: July 03, 2017, 02:07:17 PM »
Running quad setup, should the trailers be foil/foil? I have two Stretch short boards and both run quad with foil/foil trailers. My SUP's came with foil/flat, what's correct?
I tend to think Stretch has more experience and knowledge then most, but not all SUP shapers like Bert Burger/Sunova, his came with foil/flat ???

Thanks, Quad confusion
