General Discussion / Board Bags ??
« on: August 07, 2020, 04:34:06 PM »
Shinny side up  or shinny side down ?

I have an older board, and a board bag.. board has been out of the bag for a few years in the garage, recently had to move the board outside for a little while, so I put it in the bag out back on my racks where I keep a canoe and a kayak covered wit your typical gray canvas covers.

Decided to set it shinny, gray reflective (bottom), side up facing the sun and the sun seems to really be taking its toll on the shinny reflective gray stuff, which has the consistency of a blue hurricane tarp, and is becomming weathered quickly.

I also find the bag is not water-proof and fills with water in a hard rain.

Whats your opinions.facts.. comments about the right way ?

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Hydration, Walker & Runers
« on: June 06, 2020, 05:59:24 AM »
Not surfing, but where there are surfers there are usually some runners or in my case walkers.

I'm 70 and just recently March 17th received a heart transplant. Trying to get back on the go and walking approx 4 miles now and moving forward, although slowly 19 minute miles... Its sunny South Florida with days liek today, overcast 881 degrees but 95% humdity, feels like 92...

Because of the much higher risk of skin cancer, due to anit-rejection and suppressed immune system, I have to wear long sleeve high UPF rated shirts and a hat.

How do other walkers Hydrate before, during, and after a walk or run.

Carrying a water bottle is a pita, thinking of sometihng like a CamelBak..

Whats your thoughts and solutions ?

The Shape Shack / Tools for Refinishing
« on: May 13, 2018, 06:45:40 AM »
About to take on a project to refurbish/refinish an Epoxy SUP.. the board has lots of scuffs chips, and scratches in the paint and top coats, but not really thru the glass into the foam. May also add a leash plug or two, handle, and fin box.

Looking for some recommendations and/or suggestions for a sander/polisher and router for a one time DIY'er.

Which a better choice for DIY a palm or angle type sander ?

Is a light weight small plunge router good enough and will I need special templates for leash plugs or fin box ?

Fish Tales, Stand Up style / Bote Rackham vs HD ?
« on: June 23, 2017, 08:24:07 AM »
Thinking of an upgrade.. currently have a beater rec/touring board rigged to fish but have come to the realization its not the ideal platform for my needs.

Thinking seriously of the Bote boards and its kind of between the HD and the Rackham. Need something that is very quiet (no hull slap) on the water but also something that paddles well and is light. Idealy I want less than 40 pounds and the HD is now available in a new material called "gatorshell" that is much tougher than the epoxy/glass.

Does anyone have experience with both, or either, of these boards and what are you experiences ?

Specifically in a steady light chop from the wind how quiet is the hull ?
How well does it paddle when the winds pick up and you have to paddle into a head wind and/or a quartering wind ?

SUP General / Design, Build, Produce a new SUP/Paddleboard
« on: October 26, 2016, 07:57:49 AM »
I have no real idea, looking for advice and/or suggestions.

Theory... if a person has what they think is a good idea and shape for specific purpose SUP/Paddleboard that fits a small percentage of the overall market, how could a person with very limited funds get a board to market ?

Things I'm interested in are a reproducible shape, rugged shell, light sub 40 pounds, 11' to 14' x 30" perhaps 5" to 6" thickness, volume to 350-400 pounds.

What are the different process ?

So i'm always on the lookout for fishing related SUP stuff, and with the recent post on different fins there is a wealth of information out there.. I'd like some opinions and thoughts from guru's and others on this type Fin for fishermen using the SUP as a fishing platform.

What are your thoughts on the BoneFishHippies Fin ?

If you ht the web site you can see better photos and information, as well as 360 degree view...

What are your general thoughts and comments on the design, good, bad, or indifferent ?

Fish Tales, Stand Up style / Jacked
« on: June 24, 2016, 06:52:01 AM »
Some days you get the prize and some days you get hit by the dreaded manatee or Jack'd.

Good size Manatee, not a sight you want to see when drifting a flat, she was sleeping with a calf laying next to her, notice the boat prop scars

Fish Tales, Stand Up style / SUP Fishing, Bonefish

For them what don't know, caught a nice BoneFish today, after several powerful runs and a sweet sleigh ride brought landed what we call a big BoneFish.
