It helps to have a ride back to the takeoff spot.

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / New SimSup TV Dinner.
« on: November 17, 2014, 06:49:12 PM »
I recently received the newest model from L41, the TV Dinner.  I have been fairly obsessed with finding out how short can you go on a SUP?  This one is 6'6" x 31" x 115L.  I am 6'2" and 170 lbs.  I am extremely happy with the way it turned out.  I have surfed it in some really fun reef and point break up to slightly overhead. My only complaint would be slow paddling, which you would naturally expect.

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / Kings Simmons Sup 7'10"
« on: September 13, 2014, 12:53:14 PM »
This is the third Kings Simmons for my wife.  She is really comfortable with this design and wanted something lighter.  This one is 7'10 x 31" x 115L and weighs only 13 lbs.  Dave built it from one pound foam and glassed it with Innegra (vacuum bagged).  It seems to be strong too.

Gear Talk / Anyone ridden a Riviera DOOR?
« on: March 24, 2014, 10:26:55 AM »
Has anyone ridden a Riviera Door?  Ryan Helm won the Sayulita contest on an 8' Door against some hot competition.  Of course, the guy can rip anything.

SUP General / Sun damage?
« on: February 28, 2014, 03:27:00 PM »
Having been a surfer for almost fifty years I know that leaving your board in the sun is a no-no.  It appears to me that production boards with their automobile-like paint jobs do not suffer the same fate.  What do you think, or know?

SUP Gear Reviews / Newly Acquired / On Order / New Infinity Phoenix V4
« on: November 12, 2013, 07:16:38 AM »
It came in last week.  Only took three months, but was well worth it.  6'8" down the middle, 6'10" on the long side by 30" wide.  My estimate on volume is 110 - 115 liters.  It paddles very stable for its size and catches waves easy.  Surfs like a short board/fish.  I have had three really fun sessions on it and am switching fins around for maximum results.

I just received my 7'4" X 30" X 110L.  Just took it for a quick paddle after installing the pad and determined that I have found the bottom range of flotation for me (170 lbs) at 110 liters.  When I get it out in some waves, I will add to the post.

Gear Talk / Anyone know who makes a pad in this colorway?
« on: June 05, 2013, 03:24:25 PM »
I have this pad on one of my older boards.  Anyone know who makes this colorway or where I can buy it?

Gear Talk / Correcting domed deck with pad?
« on: March 31, 2013, 10:45:13 AM »
My friend has a board that she really likes with a domed deck.  She feels that the angle that she has to stand is making her back hurt and would prefer a flatter surface to stand on.  Any ideas on wedge like pads to make this correction?

Gear Talk / My prediction for board length.
« on: January 17, 2013, 09:06:52 AM »
My boards for the past three years or so have been 9' x 29", which I considered to be a perfect board.  Four months ago I got a 7'4" x 33.5.  I can't stand my old boards anymore, they are so limiting.  The production market is generally so far behind (with some exceptions).  I predict that within a year, everyone who is serious about their surfing will be on sub-8 foot boards.  What do you think?

Has anyone seen or ridden the new 9'2" Mark Richards Model from C4?

Gear Talk / Perfect wetsuit top.
« on: March 02, 2011, 06:36:29 PM »
For the past couple of years I've been wearing a 1 mm longsleeve wetsuit top made by Matuse.  This is the most comfortable top I have worn and it is really warm for its thickness.  Part of this is that it has slick skin on the outside, which keeps the wind out.  Matuse no longer makes this top.  Can anyone suggest an alternative?  Slick outer rubber is a must.

The Shape Shack / Cutting down a KIALOA blade.
« on: April 09, 2009, 10:10:02 AM »
I'd like to cut down one of my old KIALOA/Nalu paddles to the Methane template.  Is it just a matter of shaping it down like a ding repair and reglassing the edges or are there hidden pitfalls?  Any info is appreciated.

Gear Talk / recessed handles
« on: January 09, 2009, 06:55:07 PM »
Does anyone have a source for the recessed handles that mount in the deck?  I'd like to retrofit a couple of boards.
