I know some of y'all up in northern climates wear neoprene gloves to stay warm. But do any of you wear gloves in temperate waters paddle with gloves to get a good grip on the paddle or protect from blisters?
My hands slip on the paddle shaft when sweaty. Am looking at the Buff water 2 gloves. They have a gel like grip on the palm that would seem not to slip. 3
Gear Talk / Kenalu Blades« on: June 04, 2016, 11:11:54 AM »
I have a full carbon shaft and blade (no name) but the blade I believe to be a 110. It measures 8 3/4" x 18". If used for an extended paddle, it hurts my shoulder. I have a Werner adjustable that is a 95 and I do just fine with it. Could I either heat up the shaft and remove the existing blade or even cut the blade off. I need to shorten the shaft 4 inches anyway. Would a Kenalu blade in 85 or 95 fit any 1 1/4" shaft?
Are there any other manufacturers that sell blades only? 4

SUP General / Cutting Paddle Shaft« on: May 11, 2016, 05:00:38 AM »
I have an all-carbon paddle and shaft that I would like to cut shorter. Whats the best technique? I would need to remove the existing handle. Does heating it up with a heat gun do the trick?

Gear Talk / What board would ya'll recommend?« on: April 16, 2016, 12:41:51 PM »
I am looking for a board to surf with, yet also be able to flat water a little bit next to the wife. Right now, I have a 11' Yolo Coastal Cruiser which was my first board. I flatwater it and also fish off of it. I have tried surfing on it but is very difficult to catch waves with, is very slow once it does, and it does not turn very easy. In other words, its a dud on waves.
I am 52, 6'1", 210 lbs. I have body boarded all my life. in the last few years, I got into Kayak surfing, but have never really surfed on a surf board. I frequent the Florida Gulf Coast and some on the east Fla. coast as well. Most waves I encounter are Shin to chest high. I was thinking about the Fanatic Allwave @9'4" or the Riviera Turbo Nugg at 9'2: 7
Gear Talk / Surfing on a Yolo Coastal Cruiser« on: October 29, 2015, 05:16:56 PM »
So, I got the Yolo Coastal Cruiser for my 1st board. Now, I want to surf but its like turning a log. It has the stock 9" plastic single fin. What fin would y'all recommend to loosen this thing up?

Technique / A Pinch Between my Shoulderblades« on: March 17, 2015, 05:11:34 PM »
I've been paddling kayaks for some time now but just recently got into SUP and enjoying it greatly. I have watched many YouTube vids on technique and have applied them. One stroke causes a pinch between my shoulder blades. I believe it happens when I use my lower arm as a fulcrum and push with my top hand. Is that normal for that stroke or do I just need to develop that muscle that has never been used in that way?

SUP General / One more piece of Advice« on: February 19, 2015, 06:49:58 AM »
So, I bit the bullet and bought the board. I got a Dakine leash per your suggestions. Now on to the paddle. I have been kayaking all my life so I know the value of a quality lightweight carbon paddle. My problem is that I am so new to SUP that I cannot say that my paddle technique is absolutely correct enuf to specify an exact paddle length. I was given a crappy paddle with the board. It's fine for flat water for now but ultimately I want to surf and I know I will break it it two. So, I want my 1st paddle to lean towards surfing length. Should I perhaps take a class to make sure my form is correct or go with my gut
