Not sure if this was posted. if so apologies

i note how far forward on the board some of the riders are  and how many broken boards one can expect to see pushing it hard on a wave like this one. cant imagine how beat up they must be...and how stoked.

The Shape Shack / Repair Advice
« on: March 20, 2022, 02:51:57 PM »
Bad rail ding Jimmy Lewis Carbon Sup. 3 cm into core.

Questions:
1) what is the best way to cut out the damage? Exacto? Dremel and if so what tool?
2) what should i replace the core foam with? Gorilla Glue?
3) i never use carbon to repair my carbon boards. So far no problem. Is that reasonable?

THANKS

Looking for something to up my mental game by having really solid images imprinted in my mind of great SUP wave technique. Does NOT need to be didactic. to me that is mostly not helpful.

General Discussion / Tiger shark etiquette
« on: March 24, 2021, 12:54:03 PM »
When paddling at your favorite break and you see a large tiger shark slowly cruising do you:
1) head in quietly
2) paddle over to others and let them know
3) scream "shark , shark"

General Discussion / Want to try Foiling but need some advice
« on: March 17, 2021, 01:53:41 PM »
I mostly SUP surf. Rarely prone surf anymore. Some longboarding. Former windsurfer of 20 yrs.

Is it possible or rational to buy a SUP foil that could double as a wing foil?  or is that a bad idea. I dont have the luxury of buying multiple set ups...

SUP General / HOw in the WORLD?
« on: December 27, 2020, 12:23:14 PM »
Yesterday Sup surfing 3-5 foot waves. Had a fall, completely unremarkable. felt nothing. no other boards around. No reef. when i looked at my fins this is what i saw!
Fin itself is unharmed.
Not sure how i did that? if i landed on it, i should have felt it and been black and blue.

So , should i try remove the whole box to dry it out before taking it in for pro repair or other drying tips here? Much appreciated!

Have been on a Kialoa for couple of years. the front of the blade is basically fal and it flutters a lot. I didnt really notice it till i took out anohter paddle with a dihedral shape and saw the advantage in terms of reduced flutter.

so now looking for a new paddle. to be used exlcusively in the surf.
fixed length,
kenalu? Quickblade? Blackproject?
others?

The Shape Shack / Gelcoat on Jimmy Lwis Repair
« on: October 03, 2020, 04:14:33 PM »
I have a couple of small (about 1/2 CM dings where the white gelcoat (I think it is gelcoat) got removed. I can see intact carbon fiber layer underneath

What should i sue to hide these dings? They dont look structural of appear to leak...

But better safe than sorry.
