Gear Talk / Help - RRD LongSup
« on: September 23, 2019, 01:21:09 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm thinking about the RRD Longsup V1 9'4" .
I'm currently surfing a unicorn board (for me) 9'0" x 27" x 4", 120L SINGLE FIN from 2010... and I love it so much, I found it second hand on a bargain...

I would like to know especially regarding the durability of RRD an if possible I hope to find someone how surf it to share his opinion.

In addition the 2nd board which I'm also reflecting on is the Fanatic Stylemaster 9'0 or 10'.
The 10' is the last on my list because of storage issues (too big) but a friend told me that the 10 is much much better then the 9... so I'm confused.

Hope to hear your thoughts...

Gear Talk / Naish Nalu 9'0" - recommended center fin size
« on: June 20, 2016, 02:50:34 AM »
Hello :)

I have lost my Nalu fin, and I need to get a new one... I don't remember the size of the fin, but since I need to get a new one, I'm wondering if I should stick with the default dolphin style fin or should I try something else...?

I guess I will rid my Nalu single fin, I have surfed it once and since that time I'm working on fixing it (http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php/topic,29403.15.html).

I'm looking for a fin that will give me stability and easy turning and for the right size, some recommended me to go with 9" dolphin and others recommended on much smaller fin around 7".

what are you thinking about this fin: https://futuresfins.com/en-us/admiral-8-5-volan-8021-243-12-detail

please help me choose the right fin before the end of this week, swell is coming this Friday and I want to use my Nalu :)

Thanks! :)
Moshe

Gear Talk / Questions regarding restoring 2010 Naish Nalu 9'0
« on: March 22, 2016, 01:41:11 AM »
Hi,  I just got an old 2010 Naish Nalu 9'0 for around $250, in working condition it sure have many dings and fin box that got repaired by our local DING KING shop (in Israel).

I just surf it last Saturday and it was awesome! longboard style amazing board for knee high and glassy conditions (since I'm too fat for surfing it on higher and choppy conditions - only 26" wide...)

I thought about doing a DIY restoration project since it is not my main board...   I would like to restore the colors, to stiff the rails, install a new EVA deck pad, install a new handle and get rid of the old one.

1. paint job - how to address it? just start sand the old color and repaint? (I do not wish to keep tribel on the deck and all of the Naish logos are gone... so I would like to paint it all white or two colors 1 for the bottom and white on the deck)

2. stiff the rails - I thought about stiffing the rails with carbon sheets is it possible to apply carbon over fiberglass?, any tips on how to address it?

3. EVA deck, the old deck is barely there it got just a bit left.. I thought to sand it out and I would like to order something cheap from eBay, any recommendation?

4. New handle, I would like to go with the BluePlanet SUP Grip handle - any tips on how to install it? how do I remove the old one? just router it out and install a new foam? and fiberglass it?

my level of 'handy man' skills are average I know how to fix regular dings and thinks that I would be able to execute such a DIY project with the help of you guys :)  any tips and tricks are welcome :)

Thanks,
Moshe

Gear Talk / SUP buckled, searching for new board
« on: September 13, 2015, 02:15:51 AM »
Hi,

My Starboard 8.2 Widepoint buckled the other day and I have 2 options on the table

1. get it fixed, I have cheeked several ding repairs shops in my area, some says the board is total-loss some says it can be fixed but they don't know for how long it will hold - for good or few more wave sessions
2. to make a trade with a local store and get a new 2016 board for half the price or get a 2015 board for half the price from the sale price (sale price since 2016 board just came out), the store will use the board for rentals and classes

My options are only Starboard and AST constriction (this is my preference anyways, and AST is much cheaper than carbon), I looked at the Starboard lineup for 2016 and looked at the Hyper Nut 8'0 / 8'6 and wanted some more information if anyone have regarding this particular shape and how much of a difference it will be from the 8.2 widepoint shape?

I'm a big and tall (1.85 m on 95 kb) so I need a board with volume and I prefer a board that can handle choppy condition, regular waves height of knee to waist, maximum head high waves (maybe 1-2 days a year), beach break.

please help me decide what should I do and which model to choose from.

I have attached some pictures of my buckled board so maybe you can help me understand if it is repairable.

thanks,
Moshe

Gear Talk / Question regarding Ding Fix
« on: November 05, 2014, 04:25:14 AM »
Hi,

I have a hair line ding/crack on my board unfortunately ding repair are no stranger to me on my Naish 9'10 Hokua GT - very fragile board.
I have found this YouTube video demonstrating a carbon ding repair.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsdpXuAUbQE&list=UUE43KMoXicHQkfa5WuOVBKQ

On the video he puts some kind of pink nylon sheet to hold the repair, my questions are:
1. is it a common step
2. what is the type on the nylon sheet
3. how to remove it when its dry out
4. what is the best way to do hot coat? - I just use the same 2 to 1 ratio epoxy resin.

I have a suggestion, it will be nice to have a sub-category in this forum for fixing and repairing SUP  - just a though...

thanks,
Moshe

Gear Talk / advice needed - replacing my Naish Hokua 9.10 GT 2014
« on: October 29, 2014, 05:02:16 AM »
Hello,

After terrible experience with my 2014 Naish Hokua 9.10 - paint chips off, very delicate board that gets dings from just touching it, deck-pad color faded quickly and so does the grip, fins house when I release the fins one time a massive paint chip peeled off and some more problem with my new Naish that does not suppose to happen on a new board and especially from this top rated brand.

make long story short I went back to my local dealer and show him my SUP and he told me that this model might be defective from the manufacture and it already happened to few of the 2014 models...

he offered my to add amount of money and to get a new 2015 Naish SUP.

I have got anther offer to trade my SUP with a 2013 used Star-Board SUP - wide-point 8.2 ft 32 in wide 130L and not adding any money.

my question is what would you do, I do not trust Naish anymore but to get a 2013 used model I do not know how smart it would be...

My main disappointment from Naish is the build strength which seems to be not that strong, I see people around me using the star-board in such a way that my Naish would be destroyed long time ago... I keep washing it with fresh water after each use, tie it to my car roof rack with special sponginess that would not damage the board even the tie-downs straps are with sponginess to give extra protection, I have double layer rail protection + on the back...

does any one else having those issues with Naish products?

in addition I would like to trade my 9.10 Hokua with a shorter board which must have high volume - around 130.
my options from Naish would be the Mana 8.5 / 8.10 GT or the Hokua X32 GT 8.3 / 8.8

I'm 185 cm tall and wight around 95 kg.

your help would be much appreciated,

Thanks!!!
