Hi,

I'm going to visit Costa Rica next July/August with my family. I would like to take the opportunity to SUP surf in the Pacific Ocean. Unfortunately, I am the only one in my family who surfs. Therefore, it would be great to find a spot where you can surf well and with little effort (rental is necessary), the family can have a good time and you can still make nice trips or so togehter make before/after a session. Surely there are such places? What can you recommend?

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Training plans?
« on: September 13, 2022, 05:00:52 AM »
Hi,

are there SUP-training-plans out there?
I'm 48 years old, paddling 2-3 three time a week (in all conditions a coast can offer).
Mostly (if do not SUP-surfing) I paddle 1-1,5 hours with a constant, high intensity.
For the next year, I plan to participate in races (technical and long distance) and I want to be prepared as good as possible :-)

Gear Talk / What makes a good wave/surf paddle?
« on: March 24, 2021, 11:11:14 PM »
Hello,

currently I have an adjustable Sunova carbon paddle, use it for everything from touring to surfing, and I am really happy with it.
Nevertheless I'm thinking of buying a fixed paddle just for sup surfing.
And there I would be interested in your opinion what makes a good, special wave paddle for you? E.g. larger blade, stiffer shaft or vice versa?
And is there something like a reference paddle that you say this is the typical wave paddle?

Gear Talk / Gong Perv 12'6 -> when is a 2+1 setup useful?
« on: October 06, 2020, 01:27:30 AM »
Hi folks,

as already mentioned in the subject of this post, I have a (SUP-surf-newbie) question:
When is a 2+1 setup useful on my 12'6 board?
Will the outer fin help turning the board, or will they give more grip but prevent it from turning?
I have here just mushy onshore waves and I'm quite unsure about the right fin setup.
And if it is worth to buy a new fin set.

Gear Talk / Starboard - is carbon top worth the price?
« on: May 14, 2020, 10:47:22 PM »
Hi folks,

I'm thinking about getting a Starboard Generation. But I'm unsure in which contruction.
The cheaper "lite tech" or the more expensive "carbon top".
By weight, the carbon is ~800gr lighter, but also 800€ more expensive. 1€/gr.
But wouldt it be worth the price?
How are the advantages apart from weight reduction? Is the carbon top more durable?

I am pleased to hear your opinion.

Downwind and Racing / SIC Bullet vs GONG Perv
« on: May 05, 2020, 12:55:05 AM »
Hi folks,

I'm looking pout for my first downwind board.
The boards that I like best at the moment are the SIC Bullet and the GONG Perv (both boards in 12'6 * 30).
Why 12'6 and not 14? I don't what the boards to be too sluggish because the should also fit a kind of surfing in mushy, windy conditions up to shoulder high.
From the descriptions by the manufacturers thy should do   quite the same things.
The most obvious difference between thes two boards are their volumes.
The SIC comes with 280l, the GONG with only 200l.
What differences should I expect? The Bullet more for touring/downwinding, the Perv more for Surfing/downwinding?

What are your thoughts (maybe someone out there knows both boards?)? With pleasure I'd like to hear also your considerations concerning the board length.

Cheers

The Shape Shack / Carbon Rails: something like a stringer needed?
« on: August 13, 2014, 06:30:26 AM »
Hey guys,

for my next project (9'6 xps SUP) I want to try a 160 g/m² (5oz) twill carbon rail.
Now I'm in doubt if I need something to make the board stronger. And how.
My Idea is to use a unidrectional carbon tape (160 g/m² (5oz)) on the bottom.
Will that improve strengh without getting too stiff?

Glassing is planned 2*160 g/m² and 1* 160 g/m² on bottom.

Best regards,
Andi

The Shape Shack / Rocker for a 9'6 Wave/Allround SUP
« on: June 16, 2014, 07:02:52 AM »
hi folks,

I'm completely new to SUP-Boards.
I alraedy built some surfboards and I wonder if I can take the same rockertable for a SUP as for a "normal" surfboard...
I want to build a 9'6 32'' 4''1/2 Wave/Allround SUP.

My 9'6 longboard has 4''5/8 nose and 3 1/2 tail rocker.
Is that ok to start with? Or do I need more rocker?

best regards from Germany,
Andi
