Foil SUP / Looking for Rollio in Santa Cruz

Was talking to a older guy at Cowells/Indicators on a orangeish prone foilboard he made and said is name was Rollio  Want to talk to him about making me a foil SUP but now I can't remember his first name and Google is unhelpful.  Anyone know who I'm talking about?

Foil SUP / Straps and broken ankle

Was talking to Stretch today, who will install strap inserts on a SUP that I'm learning to foil on.  He mentioned kite-surfers usually have both feet in straps to avoid a broken ankle.  At this time I want to only have my front foot in a strap since I'm still a foil newb and don't need another item on the pre-flight checklist

Is breaking an ankle a possibility when foilboarding with only the front foot strapped in? 

Also, anyone carved up a yoga EVA foam block  to duplicate Roberts foot hooks?

Foil SUP / Foilboard rental in Hawaii. Bringing my own foil

Hi,

Looking to see if I can rent a foil board, minus the foil, somewhere in HI in the next few months.  I know renting a board with the foil is not available because of liability issue as well as concern that a newbie is going to jump into the lineup with a foil and be a mad slasher.

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Hip replacement and SUS

So a few weeks ago I had a hip totally replaced.  The pain had finally reached a level that was unacceptable when present, and times when it was present were occurring more often and from activities that previously did not aggravate my hip.  I'm just now getting scheduled for outpatient PT so I'm not well versed in how long it will take to get on a board again.

For hip surgery how long before you could do SUS again?  Any hacks you employed to help or move the process forward?

Foil SUP / Foils and Kelp in Northern CA

Where are people foiling in Santa Cruz area to avoid the kelp?  I assume it has to be an area with a sandy bottom like Manresea or Cowells.  Any other areas? 

I've tried Pleasure Point and Steamers at higher tides as well as Its and Davenport.  Varying amounts of kelp or kelp debris in all which means often I have kelp on the foil.

Foil SUP / foil boards vs regular sup with a foil

So while learning to foil on a 7'10 surf sup I have notice that I need almost glassy conditions to get enough forward momentum take off and then successfully get positioned.  Otherwise the wave passes me by or I'm in the wrong place (because of the instability induced by trying to get into the wave) after the foil lifts which is always leads to a crash

Are sup boards made just for foiling substantially more stable and glide better then the average surf sup?   I'm only on session 3 so I know it may be too early to expect much.

Bought the foil off CL.  Looks like a few years old.  In good shape and has both covers.

Foil SUP / Foil board on the roof rack at 65mph Results?

I re-purposed a sup I no longer use as a foil board.  Now that I have it ready to go I'm wondering what is going to happen if I put on my roof rack and go zooming around at 65mph.

Anyone transport their foilboard, with the foil installed, on the roof rack?

Foil SUP / L41 8'4x31 simnsup - Good for Foiling?

I see lots of people putting a foil on L41 boards.  Not sure why though I suspect it is the nose  Anyway I found a L41 for  $400.  Is this a good board for learning on?

Foil SUP / Would this make a good foil board? 7'10x32

I have one of these boards.  Its lightweight and stable but not as fast paddling as my 8'10 x32 starboard.  But  I thought instead of spending 1500 on a new board maybe just add a foil to this.
