« on: November 08, 2019, 08:53:06 PM »
The 9'2" Hull Ripper in white w/black, blue, and white deck pad is my new favorite. Ya know how a board has those curves that just make you go "ahhhh""? I call her "White Lightening" and just realized i forgot to add that to my edit! Oooops!  :P
Loaded a trial version of PowerDirector18 for this one. Last of my summer clips here.

General Discussion / Total Anatomical Shoulder Replacement
« on: November 03, 2019, 06:10:49 AM »
I go for a total anatomical shoulder replacement on 11/12 duplicating the shoulder joint exactly. The procedure will be at Rothman Institute in Atlantic County, NJ. My surgeon is Dr. Fotios P. Tjoumakaris. He's done hundreds of shoulder and hip replacements and he told me he told me I don't need a reverse replacement which is for patients with torn rotator cuffs that are not repairable...my rotator is intact. The reverse puts the ball on the shoulder blade and the cup on the upper arm.
It's amazing that we can rebuild our bodies like this. Titanium ball and composite cup is supposed to be good for at least 10 yrs. Longer recovery with a total anatomical since it takes longer for the forward rotator muscle to heal, but greater range of motion when healed. A Zoner who's a little more than 10 yrs younger than me had a reverse done and he's ripping hard again. I'll leave him nameless and hope he'll reply. We spoke together on a facebook call and he was very reassuring which put my mind at ease quite a bit.
I know one surfer that had his hip replacement done by Dr. "TJ". As a matter of fact that surfer is a physical therapist and has treated several of TJ's patients with shoulder replacements.

I'll be 6 weeks in sling...3 mnths b4 any kind af serious activity...might be up to 6 mnths before surfing.
It's been an ongoing degenerative condition since early March 2019 as some of you might recall. Joint is done. There is no cartilage left. I was out for three months then and had a cortisone injection in June.
It relieved alot of the pain and discomfort and allowed me to get through the summer to do surf lessons and landscaping but I've been benched since September 20th. The pain started to increase dramatically, at times migrating
down my arm to my elbow and even my hand.

I was offered another cortisone shot but passed pretty much knowing it only masks the condition. So far only two injections in the right shoulder. Last one was in 2008.
You'd think my fomo would be off the charts but at my age (61) I think my patience level is overriding any fomo. The fomo is there but in check.
I think my fear of infection and the procedure not taking is what is bothering my most. I've been imagining myself actually losing the arm! I watched one video where they showed the entire procedure and they REALLY opened this guy up. I'm super queezy when it comes to this stuff and my wife was like "Why did you watch that, idiot"! The video was a bit dated from 2015 though. I utter the emm-effer word like 100x a day and I can tell you guys it does NOT
relieve the anxiety!

Some links if anyone's interested.

Left the SOLOSHOT in my car over night and it fogged up, but still scored some good-ish footage on the first day. Second day was golden.

General Discussion / Surf Lessons
« on: July 08, 2019, 08:42:31 PM »
I've been fortunate enough this summer to have been offered a surf instructor position. Been at it two weeks now. It's mostly beginners w/the occasional student that has surfed once or twice before or maybe did some snowboarding. Lotta pushing people into waves. Had to do an online CPR test to work at the surf shop giving lessons.

I hadn't sup surfed in almost two weeks and today I finally jumped in w/it for a few waves and scored a nice fin cut. And tomorrow I have back to back lessons for four hours!

General Discussion / Shoulder Rehab
« on: June 23, 2019, 04:56:59 PM »
My shoulder is starting to feel a bit better after 15 weeks. Definitely the best session yet post injury. This sesh is eight days after the sonogram guided cortisone injection. Still taking it slow and hoping to ride the next lowest volume sup by months end.
Thanx Zoners!

General Discussion / Things Ain't What They Used To Be
« on: May 29, 2019, 07:41:46 AM »
No excuse for my total lack of absence here on forum. Might have something to do w/me trying my hardest not to slip into a state of depression. Haven't surfed since 3/4/19 when I hurt my right shoulder. Longest ever for me outa the water since my early teens. Too painful and after two sets of x-rays from two different orthopedics I've been diagnosed w/advanced arthritis in right shoulder. Rotator cuff damage has been ruled out thanx to an MRI (I was diagnosed w/an underlying tear in July, 2008). So I go in for a sonogram guided cortisone shot this Friday (5/30). Had em before and once there was such a bad reaction in 2008 I had to check into the ER the pain was so bad. Cortisone flair up was so extreme I was given a shot of dilaudid in the butt. Put me right out for like 5 hrs and upon awaking the pain was totally gone. Should mention I was in a total state of narcosis and had to have someone come get me and drive me home. That shoulder injection is WAY scary and not looking forward to getting another one. Hopefully it'll relieve the pain I've been hunkering through for weeks and weeks now. Looks like shoulder replacement might be in my future.
And to make matters worse I walked into the nozzle wand of my power washer and my ankle has been effed up for like a week now. Mighta fractured it. Then while operating said power washer a female carpenter bee stung me right effin' directly on the swollen bit of the ankle and got me good. Needless to say that was a few steps in the wrong direction to healing up.
May is my busiest month for landscaping when I have to get all my accounts ready by Memorial day and I've been trudging through the work tirelessly, rarely even checking the surf. At least it's been keeping me busy.
So things definitely ain't what they used to be.
Stay stoked cuz I sure have lost mine.
Thax Zoners
