The Shape Shack / Advice for basic repairs
« on: July 12, 2009, 10:48:14 AM »
Aloha,

Two months into paddling and so hooked, can't believe the addiction.  Couple of questions, first I have a Jimmy Lewis 10'6'' all around board.  My paddling style is not very smooth yet and now the rails are starting to look like a star filled evening on Maui.  Broken chips on the rails, the board is blue so I was wondering if I should use epoxy with blue pigment to fix these.  My younger days were filled with many surfboard repairs but was not sure about the coat on this board, looks like paint chipping, not the normal spider web cracking on surfboards.  It is not leaking, just looks funky.

Second question, sorry hope I am not boring everyone, my QB paddle has a 1 inch slice in the backside, not even sure how it happened???, soft to the push and will leak.  What's the best way to fill this, this is a carbon fiber blade. Use epoxy or even some old surfboard resin I have.  Mahalo for any advice.

Aloha,

Here's the story, started surfing at 14, 52 now.  Looking at any information to help me get started.  First issue, have not surfed for many years,  had a bad snowboarding crash at whistler, torn rotor cuff, had surgery 5 months ago, doctor says it's time to get it going.  At 5'11" 165 and fair shape, but week from lack of all things I am into.  I see this sport everyday going to Lahaina and  I am so ready to get into it.  Really want to focus on the health issues and getting back in the water.  Want to cruise and get strong, but also want to surf.  Wave knowledge and skills are still with me, but like I said very week and somewhat lost in the stand up world.  Any info would be great, board size, paddle size, etc. Mahalo for your help, again can't wait to get back out and feel home again.
