Mrs G & me were on NB AmTrack coming back to Carpinteria from a weekend in SD. Surf looked great along the way . Saw a guy on a SUP on south side of San Clemente pier get a big left bomb as we passed around 5:15 pm. Was that you? Great wave !

I think the " rule of thumb" guideline regarding paddle length was a shaka (5-6'' ) over one's head.
A few of my friends are now going to paddle length same as their height or maybe an inch above. Saying it takes a bit to get used to but is better overall.
Am I late to the party?
What's your paddle length to body height ratio ?

Just curious. I think I'm into my eighth year of Sup. I stopped prone surfing after about the second year of it. I've tried it a couple times since but only short boards. I could catch the waves, but was pretty hopeless with my once capable skill set. Clearly a case of you lose it if you don't use it. However, I seem to do just fine on my 8'2'' SUP.
Are you still proning? How often ? what size / type boards ?

I ride an 8'2'' JL Stun Gun. I've had it for two years. Ridden it in every type of wave condition. Really love the board. I am intrigued now that it is available in carbon. At the same time, his new Super Tech series looks killer as well and has me very interested. Curious if anyone has ridden / compared either of the carbon SG's or ST's to the original construction SG's like I have. I have tried a couple carbon Starboards at around 95-99 liters ( my 8'2'' SG is 99 liters ) and found the carbon felt skatier and more of a buoyant feel. Non-carbon SG of mine felt easier to sink rail / tail in turns and carried a bit more momentum down the line. Any thoughts ?

Good surf today . Hope you got some. A friend found a pro made bumper sticker with the above on it under his windshield wiper when he came in. This was at a spot between Rincon and Pitas Pt. He texted me after he found it. Asked if I knew anything. Dunno.........

I'm clueless. My wife's best friend told me she wants to get into SUP. Seeking advice after being asked " What should I get?". She lives in Oklahoma City. Plenty lakes around there but it does get windy some times. She would be a total noob and wants an inflatable as she doesn't have or want to deal with car racks etc. She's athletic and weighs about 150. Off the top of my head I told her around 9'6'' X 31 or 32 as I'm not sure of her balance skills. OK- what do I tell her? Anything worthy at Costco she had asked. Help me out guys. Thanks !

Thinking of getting a set of quads to try in my 8'7" and 8'2" JL Stun Gun . Riding both as thrusters now. Future fin boxes. What you like?
