Strange, my wife knew Veronica Hart from orientation at her chiropractor and saw all three Harts at the office from time to time.

I guess I have always been surprised there aren't more injuries at Steamer Lane, with all the jumping off cliffs and riding close to the slot/notch. A body surfer died on the other side a couple of years ago when he underestimated the tides/waves.  I guess Brian got slammed against the cliff by white water.

He really got messed up with fractured vertebra, ribs etc and paresis (unknown if lasting or temporary).

You see the strangest things on the surfcams sometimes.  Watch full screen if possible.

Santa Cruz weird?  Nahhhhhhhhh!

SUP General / I was wondering how we got so much smoke from Ventura Fires.

Thanks, SoCal, as if we don't get enough of our own smoke up here.

SUP General / Wingnut on SUP?
« on: December 10, 2017, 04:03:31 PM »
Came back in from Sharks to Privates today.  It looked like Wingnut at Privates doing SUP and he seemed to be enjoying himself.

I was in my cold weather gear/helmet, and he was wearing board shorts like it was just another day in Maui.

Gutsy.  The Dark Side making another conquest? Unless it was an evil Wingnut doppelganger.

SUP General / L41 Post Thanksgiving Gallery
« on: November 24, 2017, 06:11:25 PM »
Since I have been down and out, I can't go surfing until better from nasty cold, but am coming back to life and took long walk today.

The compensation for the shorter days of late fall and early winter is spectacular, ethereal and beautiful light along Pleasure Point and L41.

Taken with handy dandy Ipod, since I was walking and listening to music, anyway.

SUP General / Most Scenic Surf Cams

I love watching the surf cams while listening to music with headphones, it's dreamy.

What are the members' favorite, most scenic surf cams?

I like Steamer Lane, with all the kiddies jumping off the cliffs into the water, even though it makes me cringe a bit.

Sessions / Got Warned Off The Surf Today
« on: October 28, 2017, 11:13:56 AM »
I was unloading my board getting ready to go out just before 11AM.  Of all people, Wingnut was leaving with his long board and stopped and told me the surf was dangerous.  Really big close spaced sets coming in and apparently ripped up.

I guess if a professional surfer tells you it's rough, you should heed and I turned around and went home.

He's a nice person to tell me, very amiable.  I have seen him on occasion around the ole stomping grounds and he will wave once in a while going by.  I guess my elderly SUP isn't too offensive to his karma.  Nice to get some positive stoke.

Sessions / Wow, waves in Santa Cruz at last. today
« on: October 06, 2017, 08:31:36 AM »
Maybe the waves from the Atlantic hurricanes made it around Tierra Del Fuego and up the West Coast at last.

I wonder if I will remember how to surf.

Does this mean I'm not a grom any more?  A geriatric grom is a terrible thing to waste.

Sessions / Yay, finally got some waves in Santa Cruz yesterday!
« on: August 05, 2017, 11:06:03 AM »
Maybe the flatness curse is over.

Proners were like a bad rash all over L41, but Supcheatlandia was wide open and I caught a lot.

I haven't been out for a couple of weeks with this and that life busy work/heat waves in Pleasanton.  I have some kind of superstition that if I don't go out once a week, I will forget how to surf.

SUP General / Jack O'Neill Paddle Out Today
« on: July 09, 2017, 03:48:46 PM »
Tons of SUP traveling up past Sharks to go.  I was there earlier under O'Neill's house, but left.  Didn't feel like knocking foam with tons of boards.

Sessions / Did my first 360 today (body on board, not board on water)
« on: June 02, 2017, 07:07:10 PM »
I have surfed backward quite a few times, watching the water spray off the tail, but never quite managed to get all the way back around again going straight without falling off.

Hammer has enough balance so that I finally managed it.  I caught a medium wave, rotated backward while on the board, then all the way back around straight forward while on the wave.  Maybe I can do it more now that I have done it once.  It sure felt weird as in all things new, but good when I realized I finally did it.

I saw a guy doing it a few years ago when I was on the inflatable and wondered if I would ever be able to do a twirly like that while on a board on a wave.  I saw the surf grannies in Maui doing it quite a bit.

Pretty trivial thing, especially for the experienced, but I am glad I finally managed to do  it at least once.
