Share the Stoke / Pure Stoke

Just found some lost footage from a Surfers Healing event at Malibu that we helped out with back in 2010...

The pure stoke from these kids with autism in this clip as they ride some perfect Malibu waves guided by some pro level surfers, is guaranteed to put a smile on your face...and, a warm fuzzy in your heart...



My wifey, Deb, has been a Special Ed teacher for over 3 decades...she has a slew of credentials...utilizes the latest adaptive technologies...etc...but, none of it compared to the results that she saw the moment these kids got on a board...

So, we brought a bunch of SUP boards down to the event that could be tandem surfed and were plugged into the finely machined gears of the Paskowitz surf camp organization...now into it's 21st year...

Thumbing threw an old Surfing (RIP) mag circa Feb./March 1975, I found this shot of SUP surfing with a single blade paddle in Goa, India...barely remember seeing it...but, it did rattle an old synapse or two...I do remember the shot of Duncan Campbell at Malibu on the opposite page as I rode Bonzers then...

SUP General / Stolen Board ALERT

One of our great local clients, Arturo, had his 8'10" x 32" WD ECOBOARD stolen off his car here in Santa Barbara two nights ago...
SUPer nice guy...he trains yoga instructors and helps people all over the world get healthier...

Please keep an eye out for it...it's a one of a kind custom and is easily distinguishable...here's a few pics...

Foil SUP / GoFoil Windsurfing

Wanted to see how the shorter mast and wing profile on the Kai GoFoil flies under sail power (5.5m2) on my 8'5" Hammer...was pleasantly surprised how controlled it was...at least as long as I kept the front wing in the water...;-)

Will be interesting to see how Alex's windsurf foil differs when it comes out...most likely longer mast...etc...

Also, flew the Horue on an Exocet Turbo Boost slalom board...could have had a 5.0m2 up during that sesh...kind of a white knuckler...;-)

Gear Talk / Pono Bill gets some STOKE!

PB drove up the coast to our shop yesterday in Santa Barbara to demo a couple of boards...
Despite the really crap conditions, with southerly winds and chop ahead of this latest front, he was able to float test them enough to help make a buying decision on a 9'6" x 33" Stoke X-Wide...

I even set it up with his favorite leash rope method...;-)

Conditions look like they have improved down in Ventura this morning...SurfLies is reporting 5' sets...but, I'm not seeing it on the cam...regardless, he should be able to grab a sesh on the way back to San Diego County...

SUP General / RIP Surfing Magazine

This went down a few days ago...obviously, had been on life support for awhile before that...
I personally haven't had a subscription in years... must have gotten a free subscription somewhere along the way...between online competition, lack of interesting personalities, juvenile articles...etc...the proverbial writing was on the wall...

Regardless, out of curiosity I pulled out one of my crates full of old mags...stoked to see these in pretty decent shape after more than 40 years...some fun and interesting stuff in there...quite a different perspective between looking at them from a stoked grom's viewpoint back in the day to where I'm at now designing, building, and retailing SUP surfing gear at a shop near the beach in Santa Barbara...;-)

Fish Tales, Stand Up style / Thor's Hammer

We did it!!!
We just finished Steve's "Thor's Hammer" fishing SUP board build project...11'6" x 40" x 5.25" @ 301 liters...heading to Pennsylvania for Steve...

It came in a little under 30#...vacuum bagged bamboo deck with PVC reinforcement...lots of RAM mounts for fishing accessories...and, extra tie-downs...etc...it's still getting a custom laser cut pad and board bag...but, the hard work is done...

I think that this is one of the widest SUPs ever built in North America...maybe the world...

Sessions / DIY over the shoulder GoPro mount

Trying to get a different perspective than the mouth mount I've been using the last couple of months...

Testing out my DIY over the shoulder GoPro mount on my 8'11" Hammer in small high tide waves this morning...

A couple more little tweaks on it and then I hope to nab some decent waves from this new swell that's starting to fill in...

Casper Steinfath and crew stopped by the shop yesterday and invited us to the US premiere of the Danish surf film, STANDING ON WATER, being screened at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival…



Very entertaining...really shows the stoke of the crew in "Cold Hawaii"...

Small world as I have surfed with his dad a number of times...

Casper will be on his way to paddlesurf Sunset Beach tomorrow...

Sessions / Tubular 7'10" Jammer Sesh...

Got some fun barreling waves on my 7'10" Jammer...even got a hoot from a short boarder...;-)
Wish the GoPro was more WYSIWYG...and, didn't have the fish eye effect...

Also, gotta be stoked with the weather forecast...nice all week...possible 85* on Tuesday...

Sessions / One Fine Day

Kinda cool when the planets align and conditions come together to create an awesome paddle surf session...glassy, warm, sunny day with semi-hollow pumping reef/point waves...and, very few people...even saw a hawk checking things out...

I got a few mackers...definitely got my 9'2" WD Stoke up to speed...lots of sizable overhead waves with hollow sections...GoPro makes everything look smaller...;-)
