Travel, Trips, Destinations / Big Island surf Sup rentals
« on: November 06, 2019, 04:56:32 PM »
Hi all,
Headed to Kona in February for a few weeks and was curious if anyone could recommend some where that rents halfway decent surf sups . I am an advanced sup surfer in new england and currently ride a starboard wide point 8'10". Too costly to take my gear with me. Was hoping anyone had any input on a good shop that has fairly decent boards to rent. I used to be in the watersports business so I get it that most places have boarderline gear for rent to tourists. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Best,
Geoff

Gear Talk / 2019 starboard hyper nut 7'10. Any rider input?
« on: June 04, 2019, 05:08:15 PM »
Hi all,
I'm in the market for a new board more dedicated for surf. I've been riding a fanatic all wave 9'2" X31.5" for the past 6 years. Great board but I need something a bit snappier in the waves. I tried a 7'11" x 31" kings today which was fun. conditions were waist high, mushy and a little choppy today. the board was a bit unstable but I managed fine. once on a wave it was fun and very maneuverable. However I noticed the stability was still a bit  iffy. The reasons for this to me are obvious. I did like the board but I have a lot of old war wounds that make stability a factor for me ( broken pelvis, toes, ribs etc etc lol) I am an intermediate/advanced sup surfer 5'7" 165 lbs and just looking for opinions on the hyper nut. I surf cape cod and rhode island mostly. most of our conditions on  average can be mushy , just looking for a board with stability, shorter size and something that is very "skatey" on the waves. Any and all advice is appreciated.

Sessions / Fun times
« on: December 31, 2013, 05:18:20 PM »
Last session of the year with Ron C. The usual haunt was a bit weird with a NE swell but got some decent leftover chest high sets come through. 2013 was a good year, met lots of good people, made some great new friends, and surf some fun waves. Hope everyone has a great 2014.

Sessions / finally local summer
« on: September 05, 2013, 04:12:56 PM »
Now that local summer has arrived I have been getting some much needed dawn patrol sessions in. The local spot has been really nice the past few mornings, decent waves, good vibe, good crew, got too see old friends and made some new ones. Really nice to have such an aloha spirit before work.

Sessions / My face hurts

From smiling so hard yesterday.
Third session on the allwave 9'2". Chest high semi clean waves all morning. This board continues to blow me away, so maneuverable , stable and a wicked nose riding machine. A few waves that I paddled too late into were no problem, just walked up to the nose, a few more strokes and I was off and flying. Walk back when the wave started to break and it handled so well. 3 1/2 hrs of pure fun with Ron C. and the usual suspects. Had a few smartass proners making shitty comments that ate their words when they saw what this board could do. was giving a lot of waves to them and they just weren't taking them, but all of us on sups were having a blast. ;D

SUP General / vents
« on: April 20, 2013, 01:50:38 PM »
Ok so here is my situation. I have noticed that my Naish Mana has been getting a little heavier. I had it on my board rack upside down and noticed that there was water coming out of the deck vent. Not pouring out but very lightly weeping. When I bought the board used the guy told me that the previous owner had screwed the vent plug in cross threaded, and he had taken it to a surf shop and had it put in correctly. Obviously this is still a problem. I do not travel with the board (by air) and it rarely sits out in the sun. I am planning on vacuuming out the water with my vacuum pump. Can I just glass up the vent so that I do not have to worry about leaking? Thanks in advance.

SUP General / Where's Whitey?
« on: August 30, 2012, 02:48:36 PM »
Well I finally got a look at a great white today. Fortunatley from the beach. My week off and I have been enjoying some pretty good surf all week, always keeping in mind that they are around.Well on my way down this afternoon I see the spotter plane doing circles close to my usual spot.Drive down the beach a little further and there is the shark tagging boat about 50 ft off the beach.I jump out and I can see the massive fish swimming within almost spitting distance and then head out and get tagged.I have dived with tigers, hammerheads, many pelagic sharks, this was an awesome sight to see right in front of you.
