Larry Gordon, who revolutionised surfing when he created foam boards at his California company in the late 50s, has died. He was 76.

Gear Talk / my latest paddle

here is my latest canoe paddle - i purchased it from solomon who made it last year
for his own use in kaibola village on kiriwina in the trobriand islands
papua new guinea

it is carved from a single piece of local hardwood. the blade has a slight curve
with a dihedral on the inside face which is shallow but more pronounced
towards the tip - i guess a thousand years of carving has taught the
polynesians something about fluid dynamics!

i have an ULI GLX-1 which i think is great but looking for a second inflatable and
 have seen no reviews of these

for delivery to NY ?

Gear Talk / depth gauge ?

whilst waiting for sets too often i drift and end up either outside or inside
when they roll in so i plan to install a sonar depth gauge under  my board
with a digital readout on the nose - that way i can always be in the sweet spot

it might even work !

Wind Powered / sup/windsurf combo around 10ft+

hi from the UK

i am looing at geting a flatwater cruiser that can also be used for light
windsurfing and looking for some advice and suggestions

in the UK the following boards seem to be availiable with mast fittings

SB drive
SB whopper
SB whopper with daggerboard
Fanatic 10 HRS

anyone here doing this and can give some pointers as to what works well ?

or is the combo a waste of time and the worst of both worlds ?


FYI i am 5-11 and 87kg a comptent SUP/surfer, an out of pratice sailor and novice windsurfer

hi - i have been looking for a decent cruiser board and here
in the UK they are pretty rare - i may be able to get a good s/h
C4 holoholo

this board had great reviews 2-3 years ago when it came out
(incluidng on here) so my question is - does it still stand out or has design moved on for these kind of boards (as it has for surf sup)

only other option is the SB pin but im not sure the canoe nose is what
i want

Gear Talk / board with glide?

hi i am now looking for a new board with GLIDE but under10-6
that is still stable

i am 5-11 and 190 lbs and surf a custom 9-1 subvector in epoxy glass over EPS - its a great board in decent surf but in small waves (below waist
high) the lack of glade from a short wide light board is a problem

so i am looking for a board with glide and willing to trade to less manoeverability rather than less stability

noseriding would be a plus

suggestions ?
