SUP General / Take every wave. Have you seen it?
« on: September 11, 2018, 09:18:07 AM »

Hi all,

Have you seen this? Worth it? Thoughts?
Does it have the nutty part of him too or is it just wild glorification?

Remember he was foiling way the hell back in time. I remember watching him foil I dunno in 2001-2002, and I just had to get that foil. I used mine for kiting and ocean swell, not crazy big breaking swell.
I'm a huge fan of what he has done in surfing, but perhaps not a huge fan of every aspect.

If you are bored...or actually whatever reason you can come up with...just check out latest episode by the enigmatic Tyson and his episode of StartTalk and the science of surfing. Well worth it.

SUP General / Foil through shallow shorebreak - looking for tips
« on: January 03, 2018, 01:25:03 PM »
Ok, so if anyone can help me with some ideas here. Or more detailed info?

I've been used to surfing in Hawaii with clear and relatively easy channels to paddle out in and I was much more in the water so my balance was on point when ever I got to waves.

In Nor Cal it seems waves are much more beach breaks with closer period waves and so access on boards that are undersized is harder (think OB). Now that I have a foil it adds another dimension. Accessing waves outside when the shorebreak hits you in shallow waters. I saw Kai's / Naish video about turning the board upside down until you reach shoulder deep waves. Has anyone tried it?

Tips would be much appreciated.

SUP General / Board bags!!
« on: December 07, 2017, 05:39:19 PM »

Hey guys. I kind of have this compulsion to keeping my boards in boardbags.
I just scored *another* Naish board, this time a 9-5 Mana. Its 9-5 and 32 wide. Its huuuuge.
Does anyone have any recommendation on cheap-ish boardbags for mana sized boards?

Gear Talk / Naish Hover Crossover
« on: November 10, 2017, 07:48:20 AM »

Hi guys. Anyone actually ridden the Hover Crossover as a SUP board?

I just got mine, but I am nursing a cold and can't get in the water. It looks a lot like the Raptor, a board I really liked so I am super optimistic, but as usual when I have a new board I get super excited and want to learn more about it as the anticipation of actual water time builds.

It is 7'6'' vs raptor 7'0''. When I had the raptor I felt that was an ideal board to put a foil on. I am not sad they added a bit more length..I am assuming that helps the windsurfing aspect.

Anyways any experience and tips will help me pass the time.

SUP General / Tips for new foilers.
« on: November 05, 2017, 01:11:51 PM »

Hi good peeps of the zone. I am finally coming home to my SUP foil and can barely contain my excitement. I am a bit heavy for the board but I think eventually I'll be fine.

Now, I am a believer of trying to not make the same mistakes that other have of it at all can be avoided so I thought I would put it out here:

Any tips / ideas / avoids  / and definitely dos for new SUP foilers?
Thx again guys.

SUP General / Dealing with curious Seals
« on: September 05, 2017, 10:44:36 AM »
So does anyone here have experience dealing with Seals?
In Hawaii I saw a few seals paddling. I never had much interaction except for one that seemed to want to check out my board.
Now 2 days in a row in the bay area seals have shown a tad too much interest. I was out paddling on my Mad Dog (I am trying to get onto a board I am really 30lb+ too fat for so I try to take it out in flatwater, but I was very unstable and did some prone paddling as well). About 4 seals showed a lot of interest. At that point I had been out a while and problems standing on the board when waves came.
The seals kept on being as close as 3 feet away.

I was prone paddling and the seals kept on following. Nothing really happened, but they kept on following. They did not show any signs of aggression, but they were curious. I guess part of the problem is that their play or curiousness might involve a bite. I would be more comfortable with them around if I didn't keep on falling.

Do you have any experience with seals? Any interaction?
