I haven't seen the Yakima version but I saw these homemade ones about 7 or 8 years ago

They definitely keep the bed open and we're easy to load

Wow, I wasn't expecting pics. Had a blast. Love the weather and H20 temps down south. A great day to miss work. You didn't get a pic of the beer we picked up at Civil Society. Probably enough for the whole Zone

If your balance is at least decent, you could have a great time on the 9'1.  If you are in SoCal, I would let you try mine.

I've been looking for an excuse to get out there again

Dang, I'm 210 with poor balance and was thinking the 9'1"would be super stable for me. I was thinking 8'10"

I think the 9'1" will be plenty big. I'm ~210 with poor balance and ride 127 liters pretty easy. I'm considering the 8'10". 136L would be very stable

I don't think Phil's has ribs like that. The pic I showed was from a place in St. Augustine, FL.

Franklin's does them (I think 1 day/week). La Barbecue (near Franklin's does them as does Mueller's (all in Austin). Black's BBQ in Lockhart does them too. Come to St. Augustine and I'll get you setup. The guy here is from Lockhart and his brisket and homemade sausage is as good as any of the places I mentioned above.

Looks like La Barbecue is opening in LA soon: https://www.labarbecue.com/

I checked out Riders Club last week. Thanks for the recommendation. Another good burger is Hodad's in Ocean Beach. Both these places are winners.

Beef Ribs are even better than brisket. Even Aaron Franklin says so:

"If I had to name my own personal favorite cut of barbecue, it would probably be beef ribs. They are the richest and the most decadent, succulent, and flavorful cut of beef you can put on a smoker. That’s also why I don’t eat them much—too rich, too hedonistic. We only cook beef ribs on Saturdays at the restaurant: they’re a special treat"

I'm lucky to have a guy from Lockhardt, TX that has a bbq trailer nearby. His beef ribs, brisket, and sausage are just as good as anything I had when I hit the Austin - Lockhart BBQ trail a few years ago. Get them if you're ever at a place that does them right.

SoCal / Re: need a friend to surf with

I'm coming out Wednesday for a week. Staying in Encinitas with my son (proner). Let me know what days you want to go out. We're surfing everyday.

I always stop at Point Loma Seafood. The calamari sandwich on sourdough is my favorite (might check out Mitch's too). Mariscos Nine Seas has my favorite Baja fish taco. Oscars in PB is my other favorite taco shop (no Baja there) and Hodads in Ocean Beach has great burgers. I'll be hitting them all up next week when I'm there. Going to try Riders. Never been there.

Looks like you should design seal repellent into your next board :) Maybe that could be a feature in the production models.

I've rented from Eric at Pt. Loma OEX twice when I've been out there. Great boards both times. I might be heading that way next month but will be driving and bringing my own board this time... the same model I rented from him last year...

I'll second the recommendation for Shawn and Nathalie. We stayed about a week and a half at aquavida a couple of years ago. We had a blast. Very low key down there but the surfing, pipas, and coffee were all we needed. Got to watch a local soccer game one afternoon.

Here's a pic of Shawn taking off on one and another of my son. I was thinking of going back again. Love the relaxed vibe down there.
