This is awesome to see, especially after seeing other footage of the recent swells online from the usual surfers.  Thanks!

I have a 12'1x27x4 pintail carbon custom SUP that I love.  For me it serves the purpose you described.  I am 6'2 230 lbs and wear a full wetsuit much of the year.  I have no trouble with the 27" width and, for me, keeping it narrow is an important part of performance.  This board is great.  It surfs well in a range of wave sizes, can be used in the rec races legally, is a decent downwinder in a pinch.  You are definitely on the right track looking at a board like this.

Classifieds / SIC Bullet 17'4 with Active Steering System and travel bag
« on: October 08, 2018, 10:07:52 AM »
This 17'4 SIC Bullet with ASS and a near new travel bag is in great shape, with only a few cosmetic scratches.  I am selling for $2000.  It is located in West Michigan.  Would be willing to consider shipping but that seems like a daunting task.  I couldn't get my pics to upload but can send through email to interested parties.

Great!  Thank you and what a fantastic journey.  I was looking on the Voting link to try and see how long the voting window is open?  I couldn't find it, do you know?  The reason I ask is I am a high school guidance counselor and I am going to share your film and promo code with the Psychology teacher in my high school.  We are working to present a unit on exercise/fitness/adventure as a method of managing anxiety and depression.  So I wanted to give my Psych teacher a sense of the timeline for free viewing of your film.

Well done, thanks.

Foil SUP / Re: 75 Foil Sessions - Video
« on: August 25, 2018, 11:33:17 AM »

I am currently on the East Coast of the US and have come to appreciate how good we have it in California.  In Northern California it is Rarely smaller than 4 feet and NEVER smaller than 2 feet .  The only challenge is finding days that are small enough to take the foil vs. regular surfboard.  Sessions can be had all the time in California.

On the East Coast the waves can be legitimately FLAT.  I have been pushing what is possible in the East Coast and it is pretty amazing.  The relative advantage of the foil is actually greater here than on the West Coast.  But the reality is that some people might only get 20 or 30 sessions a year.  60 would be A LOT.  I am estimating based upon New England conditions, wind, waves and work / life balance.  The foil COULD increase the session count by 50% to 100%.  More to come.

Come to the Great Lakes Beasho!  We'd love to have you and the perspective-building continues.  I actually had a real fun surf today, local buoys reading 6 foot swell and southwest wind 15-20 knots.  I am lucky to live on the lakeshore in a place that gives me options in nearly every wind condition.  But it takes a quiver to do that and I added a foil a year ago.  I have had what is just called the Maliko, it's a 180 I believe.  I just ordered the dw combo with a Maliko 200 and 280 as well as the taller mast.  That'll get me going better I believe, though the 180 has worked well for towing and some learning experiences in the surf.

I am still going to surf stand up and prone on days when we have legit surf.  I'll still do downwinders on my 14 and 17'4 on good downwind days but I am really hoping my foil set up will fill in all the blanks.

To the OP, thank you for this video.  I am going to share with my downwind crew, which now has some aspiring foilers.  3 of us have sup foil rigs and another buddy -- iDownwind on the Zone -- has a new wind foil rig.  So we getting out there! Your video will help us all reflect on our progression.

Hey DK!  Always fun to be in a position of board shopping.  I have the impression you are looking for a surf style SUP for the Lakes.  I am a strong believer in a quiver for maximum Great Lakes enjoyment.  A person who is really trying to get after it should have a good downwind board, a couple surf style boards and, if interested in racing or training maybe a raceboard, though the downwind board would work in a pinch.

There are plenty of good breaks on the southend of Lake MI.  Your generalization about those waves is not as kind as it might be after a few years of getting after it at the right spots in the right winds.  In fact, tomorrow the southend ought to see clean waist high waves at a few different breaks.  Always check the lee side of breakwalls during wind events and don't rule out the beachbreak around places like Ogden dunes.  It does make a difference when you go to the right spot but don't stress about about that.  Go where you can and do what you can.

I can't say for sure what board you ought to get.  You mention an interest in the Blend.  They have changed that design from the original but I was a big fan of the original Blend and a board like that would be great.  That Gerry Lopez posted above is a good choice too.

I am 6'2, 230 lbs without full wetsuit. My focus is on waves and downwinding. I also surf without a paddle and am experimenting with foils.  My current Lake MI SUP quiver is:  a few 14' raceboards, 14' SIC Bullet V2, 17'4 Bullet, Blkbox 9'4x30 surf sup (5 boxes); Blkbox 10x30.5 Megadialer (quad), Blkbox 12'1x27 longboard style SUP (absolutely great and versatile board); Blkbox 8x27 foilboard with GoFoil.

It sounds like you are looking for something for multiple users?  That always ends up in compromise, I think.  Good luck and have fun.

Sorry if not appropriate, but can't help but advertise....I have a 9/10 condition Go Foil Maliko with soft case for sale, $950 plus shipping.
All options are being considered. Thanx for offering. I see the Maliko 200 is one of the larger wings available. Description says it is good in small surf.     https://gofoil.com/maliko-200/  The MALIKO 280 is even larger. which do you have, XLR?    https://gofoil.com/maliko-280/

I have the first generation of the Maliko, before the 200 and 280 came out.  It has a 32" wingspan.  It uses the same mast, fuselage and rear wing as the newer Malikos, I believe.  I got it last fall eager to get into foiling.  I am 6'2 225lbs without full neoprene and live in the Great Lakes.  I want the Maliko 280.  I can tow foil fine on my rig and can get up and flying in the surf break, but I was more interested in foiling as a downwind thing and with the 280 now available I think that is the size for me, at my size.

I love my 12'1x27" carbon sup for all kinds of things, from cruising, to milking summer waves to catching big outside rollers and riding them all the way to the beach.  This is my most versatile board.

If the 280 Maliko is 2800 sqcm as Robert states in his video then there is hope - I've seen someone else say it's 32" wingspan and 1800sqcm. Mine is 2000 sqcm (39" / 100cm wide) and it feels huge. Can someone confirm the width and area of the Maliko 280?

My local shop told me the Maliko 280 has a 41" wingspan.

I would like one.  I wish Go Foil would let you purchase only the front wing.  I understand they have the taper and  insist it has to be a dedicated system, but I believe everything is the same as my Maliko 200 except the front wing.  Makes it pricey.
