...forgot to mention, if you have a good connection, download the WMV file at the lower right corner of the Vimeo page.  Way better quality and only 52 meg.

This certainly isn't the biggest wave of the last two weeks but its the one that meant the most.

Bob, you are the real deal.  I dig your style.

Shot this yesterday of Slater on the South Shore.  The last 2 weeks plus  of perfect north shore surf (thanks North Shore) left us for a day, and the south shore started getting a little bump.  Came with some light onshore wind and was small, but Slater can have fun in anything!   Props early on to Lighning Bolt Maui, Bill, Maui Rippers, and now C4 Waterman for sponsoring young talent in our sport.  Way to go!

Hi guys,
Sorry about that.  The forum software we use (actually all forum software) hiccups and stalls services every now and again.  It takes a reset to fix it, but I need to be awake for that :)

Rest assured, we have not been compromised.  The most personal thing that the standupzone site collects is an email address, and for all of those who have participated in this thread so far, your emails were set up as public.  Unfortunately, we can not protect public content from bots and still allow the site to be searched by bots (which we needs it to be).

Again, unfortunately, once spammers have your email address in their database, it will stay there and you will continue to receive junk (and they tend to sell them too).

Another side note: it is a good practice to never respond to junk mail, even to request that your name be removed from their lists.  This just confirms the address to the spammers and guarantees the continuation of the spam.

My primary business email address filters over 4,000 spam emails a day.   What a freaking waste of bandwidth!

Hi guys,

This is an unfortunate reality of the internet these days.  Spammers use "bots" (the same type of software used by the search engines) to comb all public websites for email addresses.  You all have selected to have your email addresses publicly displayed on the site.  This is a choice that you can change in your profile settings.

-If it is important to you that your email address be publicly displayed, then you will want to leave it (with the understanding that it is likely that it will be picked up by spammers).  If you have good spam protection procedures in place this will not likely be a problem for you.

-If it is not important to you that your email be displayed, then change that in your profile.

NOTE:  Trying to fool the bots is becoming very tricky.  Typing things like admin***at ****standupzone***dot***com with instructions to remove the *** and use an @, are no longer any protection.  The spammers make a lot of money doing what they do, and work very hard at it.  Most of the simple efforts to evade them don't work.

Yesterday was just epic for us at Kanaha with Scott and his wife.   I can't stop thinking about how good the Kanaha session was.  I don't think I've ever been in head high waves, glassy conditions and only a few people in the crowd.  It was perfect.

Also, a shout out to Rand and Chan who stopped by and also were at Kanaha.  Rand - I now found someone who can eat more than me.  It's amazing you're so skinny.

It was a true pleasure to get to paddle with you guys at Kanaha in such fun conditions.  Saw Evan, Bob, Bill and Caveman get some super fun looking rides.  Yeahhhh!

PS:  I like pig.

Hiya,

Quote
So how much do these guys weigh?
My guess is 14-16 lbs, but never did weigh one.

Quote
Does it look like they are sinkers?
No.  If you consider that most 6'4 shortboard surfboards have under 30 liters of voulume, most 9' longboards under 65 liters, most wavesailing boards under 75 liters (with huge ones still under 95).  My 8'4 stand up is about 110 liters and and my feet are just above water level at a stand still.

Quote
How about their paddle speed?
What paddle speed?  :)  Kidding.  Slower than you are used to, but faster than you might expect.  That said, you will get clipped when you don't plan well.  For Channel outs, it is no problem, beating out takes more work.

I rode short boards for 10 years or so, so I know the ride.  I am a long board surfer at heart and that is why I chose the nose riding design.
No doubt.  This is just an alternative, not a one or the other thing.  It is fun because it changes the way you can ride, and the way you have to ride.  Among other things, it is incredible balance practice.  I would never suggest that it should replace larger boards, noseriders, or anything else anyone is having fun on, but it is very fun in its own right, and would hopefully open up new possibilities in your riding.

I see sup's now 9' range.  Are they being used in larger surf?  Are we going to see 7' or 8' sups?

Hi Tuber,

There are a few members here who have been enjoying smaller boards for some of their riding for some time now.  Tim Stamps had an 8'0 for a bit, Byron, NoWorries, Frank at Lightning Bolt, Chan (and it seems like I may be missing others) all have boards in the mid 8 foot range.  The difference between these and the 7' Starboard is that they are not 30 inches wide or 5 thick (they are 26-28 ish, and 4-4.5).

Speaking only for myself, I think that many riders will eventually own what is now considered a little board (whatever that might be for their size) for perfect waves, and something a bit larger and more stable for when things get sloppy.

If you enjoy experimenting, and are willing to leave your ego on the sand, give it a try.  I can guarantee some of the funnest waves of your life...and some utter humiliation.

Doesn't like to use his paddle much while actually riding... probably saving it to beat down any shoulder hoppers  :D

Shoulder would be one thing...it's all those meddling peak droppers...

To morph Potter Stewart's line a bit:

I am not sure exactly how to define bad etiquette, but I know it when I see it.  The drop in to shove mid-vid qualifies (ripping aside).

Now let's talk about pigdogging a 10'x29"x4.5 through a heaving right hand barrel section (I'm screwfoot)- any thought s on that one? Or is it just point and pray?

Barrels aside, if its pigdoggn' with heels on (or close to) the inside rail and a 4.5 inch far rail to grab....Man, you need some long arms and big hands  :)

Good Q though, where are you hiding the paddle, inside hand and tight in?

500 box for the winner is not well paid.

On the same day, we were out in waves 1/4 that size, with onshore wind and 5 times the crowd.  We got paid much less.  :D

He never surfed before, he was bodyboarder before a stand up surfer..his board is a Foote custom. What a natural !

Hi Surfpainter,

In addition to bodyboarding all along, I think Jeremy has surfed for the last years (still a really quick study).  He longboards and shortboards laydown, so he did bring those skills to stand up.  This note is just to clarify, so that no new stand up paddlers are left out there thinking, hey why can't I... :)
