Foil SUP / Re: GoFoil RS Series?

I wonder if gofoil has finally adopted numbering system based on area in cm2.

I’ve pretty much given up on gofoil - basically seems unobtainable, zero information available anywhere.  Good for Alex running a lifestyle business, but I think I’ll support the companies which are willing to actually market and sell their gear rather than a fraternity for his Maui bros.

You have hit the nail on the head here.
I learnt with the old Iwa setup and loved it for wing and sup then wanted to upgrade to the GL and new mast, well good luck getting one back in the day, yet all their social media and team riders were showing the NL series but joe public couldn’t get anything.
I would love to go back to GoFoil but I feel like it’s one of those elite clubs you can’t get into without a secret handshake.

The duck gybe is the best and easiest way to gybe in underpowered conditions. As soon as you let go of your front hand you get a little bit of power in the wing that helps you complete the gybe. The Balz Muller learning video (part 2) explains in detail how to do them

Cloud 9 is 45mm centre to centre

....... I couldn't consider swapping feet before gybing when I was learning as it involves a foot swap to my much weaker toe side stance. ..........

IMO one should never ride toeside with weak foot forward.  My advice to op was to switch feet before the gybe is if you are riding with your weak foot forward......switch feet first so that you are now strong foot forward (toeside), then gybe.

Just our of interest, are you an ex kiter?

I did kite for about 10 years which is why I find toeside pretty easy. Having said that most of my winging buddies never kited and still gybe the way Phils described above

Foil SUP / Gofoil Tuttle to plate permanent bond
« on: December 11, 2020, 02:52:11 PM »
I have one of the 2019 24.5” Tuttle masts connected to an aftermarket ali plate adaptor. I was sick of shimming this regularly so decided to do a permanent bond with JB Weld marine epoxy.
I did the original bond back in July and have used the mast at least 100 times since (thanks Covid).
I’m pleased to report that the bond is still 100% in tact and anyone having a similar issue with whatever mast to plate adaptor they are using I recommend considering this approach.

Of the wings I either owned or tried in the 5m size, the Ensis (medium size l/edge) really trucks upwind and doesn’t backwind like the others I’ve tried. Naish (small l/edge) also good but does backwind. Echo and Unit (huge l/edge) not quite as good as the other two

My first post here after considerable difficulty registering, almost gave up but then saw a useful tip about what your user name should be to get approved.

Anyhow, I’ve had the Ensis 5,2 for a week now. Had 3 sessions on it. Other wings I have owned or tried of similar size are the Naish 5,3, Armstrong 5,5, Duotone Echo 5.

All of these wings have positives and negatives. As far as the Ensis goes the positives for me are:
instant low end power; stiff canopy; build quality; upwind ability without backwinding; relatively small leading edge; stability when flagged out; good handles; large wind range; no windows; relatively light.

Negatives are: ridiculously small bag; flat profile makes tacking more difficult than other wings with dihedral shape; valve system (much prefer the Naish spring valve); large wingspan makes dunking the wing tips common; wing stability necessitates more aggressive man-handling of the wing in transitions; I don’t believe this wing is the size they claim - seems bigger to me.
