SUP General / Getting board on/off SUV in high wind
« on: September 23, 2010, 08:44:45 AM »
Hello all. Almost lost my Laird 11' 6'' earlier this week - high wind made it virtually impossible to get board off the top of my SUV, to carry the board to the launch site and to get the board back on the rack.

Any suggestions/tips on
1)getting board up and down from the rack and
2) carrying it safely

so I can still go SUPing on the windy days we get so often in the Midwest? (without my board getting blown away like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz!)

Thanks.

Which'd be better for a beginner in calm, flat water (lake in the good ol Midwest)? I'm 6'2, 185 pounds.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just getting into SUP. I'm around the same size as you and will only be paddling on lakes with very little chop.

Anyone else think this is a decent entry level board for less than $400 new?

Hey guys. This board is available at a closeout price. Could I use it for SUP?

Need a couple of quick replies please.

Great advice, thank you. So you think that a bigger version of the Laird would be a lot better for flat water? Are there any other boards that I should consider for around a grand?

Also, what's a decent entry-level paddle that won't be completely useless?

Thanks for informing this SUP newbie!

Hello all. Advice needed please. I am a newbie SUP'er who will be paddling on a calm lake in the Midwest.

I have the option to buy at Surf Industries 7S Uber Fish (9' 8'') for $950 or a Surftech Laird Hamilton Soft Top 10' for $900.

Which would you choose, and why? I'm 6'2, 185 and pretty athletic, but as I said, not a surfer.

Also, what's a good beginner paddle?

Any/all input welcome.

Thanks.
