When testing my waist CO2 PFD the Velcro didn’t release. If it were around my neck it would have probably killed me. It squeezed the hell out of my guts. My first reaction was to unbuckle it, but was so tight that I couldn’t.  I had to rip the Velcro open.

Thanks for the sharing your experiment Beasho. Could Gorilla Glue be used to repair a small areas were foam is missing instead of using a mixture of Micro-Balloons and epoxy to fill in a void in the foam?

Yes - HARD STOP . . . . 100%  Much easier using Gorilla Glue than Epoxy and Micro-balloons.

There is a trick.  You need to add 'kicker'.  With Gorilla Glue this is a touch of water.  I whip it in with a Dremel.  Spray a few dustings and whip the glue until it turns lighter and aerated.  What this does is to ensure the glue cures from within and doesn't form large gaps.

Thanks Beasho! I was worried that there may be large gaps in the Gorilla foam, but your technique of getting a good mixture should solve that.

I have to say that the NSP has the nicest looking dugout. What I notice in padding my NSP Sonic in rough conditions is that the high rails prevent the water from wrapping around the rails and on to the deck. I’m sure having water flowing around the board instead of over it has its advantage. Also those high rails give you some added buoyancy in the form of secondary stability. And of course the low center of gravity is another plus. With that said the Sonic’s round bottom gives it a very unstable feel when you first get on it, but after a couple of hours paddling (about 20 hours at least for me) your body adjust to it. So far the only part of my body that has gotten hurt on the rail was the side of my heal catching it while falling off.
PS. Travis and Pea could probably do good paddling an 18 ft log. The difference in performance may be less than 1% between a dugout and a flat deck, but that 1% could make a big difference in a stacked field and in a long race like M2O.

If you hit the rail while falling it’s probably that you’re trying to hold on to the board. TallDude has good advice. I’m still learning on my NSP Sonic and like Area10 said, getting back on after a fall is the bigger problem. You just can’t lay on the board with your belly and slide in. You have to lift like doing a dip on a parallel bar, but put most of your weight on the opposite rail. The Sonic drains in seconds compared to the early model Ace. I saw a video yesterday with Travis Grant and he will be using an NSP prototype unlimited dugout for M2O this year. It’s the board on the left. The one on the right is the flat deck unlimited.

It appears that they are able to stay further forward on the board without having to step back and slowing down. Also being able to use the rudder more often connecting with more bumps.
