« on: November 19, 2014, 03:57:24 PM »

seems I had  an infection in my brain, something Called HSE, fwas told it has  mortality rate Of 70%, so zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzI AM LUCKY To HvE SURVIVED.  DIEING WOULD Have BEEN WORSE

Flatwater and Touring / Camping
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:36:12 PM »
I went camping with a kayak group this weekend.  It has been a few years since I last camped, a few decades since I last paddle camped and the first time I have camped with a sup, so there was much to remember and much to learn

Almost all packed

I feel like the Beverly Hills boarder, this picture really does not do justice to how much stuff I had on the board, there are 2 coolers there because I just had to take enough Angry Orchard Cider, and a few gallons of water behind them.

There might have been to much cider, or maybe to many Margarita's to go with them because the next morning this happened

Even looks like my paddle was backwards

I ended up being very impressed with my board as a platform to paddle camp with

Random / Re: Rant. Cops are ASSHOLES
« on: November 01, 2013, 10:07:07 AM »
Lots of assholes everywhere.  The vast majority of my interactions with police have left me regretting my tax dollars pay their salaries.  I think a lot of it comes with the "control the situation" training they get in the academy, and the power trip they get out of it.

yes I have been to Honolulu.  lots of cities have heavy traffic. I have lived in Boston, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles.  I know traffic.  you can have both you know, good mileage and a suitable rack to carry your board.  since 1980, I have not bought a vehicle without checking the rack possibilities, for bikes, kayaks, surf skis, and now paddle boards.  lots of paddlers here have the Jetta Sport Wagon clean diesel.  mileage is very good.  rack is not too high.  good crossbar spread.  it doesn't quite make the political statement that a Prius (pious!?!) does, though.  some of the compact SUVs do pretty well on  gas.  and, it has been said on this thread, with a 10 year break even point for a hybrid, which is about when it will need new batteries, are you really saving?
I am reasonable sure you intend no  offence, but my first feeling is "climb down out of your ivory tower and smell the cat food".  I am happy for you that your financial situation affords you the ability to choose your vehicles on such frivolous grounds, but the world is full of people who simple can not.  It only furthers the idea that SUP is a sport for rich old white men and their trophy wives.

Hilarious.  Dont think you need to be rich to buy a Jetta wagon.  Pretty sure the Pious costs more.  I will let my wife know you think she is hot.  Your outlook on life will evolve as you mature.
Pomposity suits you well

Just had my rack fail and board come off at over 70mph on Sunday.  The straps were run inside and that is what saved the board from being a total loss.  It hit the ground right side up and was held next to the car by the straps caught in the right side doors and the bow line.  Just one hole worn in the bow center line and cracked/broken wood around the fin box.  Hopefully just a weekends work if I can get things warm enough to cure epoxy in a reasonable time.

The point is don't go experimenting, and don't assume that it still is in good condition.

As far as drilling holes in the roof, the factory supplied dealer installed racks on the Isuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport were installed on Nutserts with 1/4-20 threads

Drifting in a Ferrari, fun to watch and listen to, but somehow drifting anything that is not Japanese just does not seem right

This is an example of why The Zone is so much more then a paddleboard database.  Where would I have learned about the travesty of frozen beaver anal glands

It also makes me wonder, how is the extract collected?  Seems like if you had to kill the beaver to extract it there would not be a big enough supply to worry about, so that suggests that someone is squeezing beaver butts, and that is an image I think i will leave you with

Wild animals, you can never trust them, never know if/when they might turn on you.  Makes interacting with them all the more exciting, kind of like free climbing.  Likely never be a problem, but sometime someone is likely to get hurt, that is the chance we all take when we enter the water, or go climbing, or motor racing, or hang gliding or a host of other activities.

Here is to all you fellow adrenalin junkies, stay stoked and don't push limits you do not intend to push.

Spread tow, because the tow is flat rather then round, it is shorter for a given linear measure of the fabric(it does not have to travel as far from its average axis to get over and under the crossing tows).  That increases the stiffness of the final product because under tension there is less to stretch, and under compression the fibers are straighter and rely less on the bonding matrix (epoxy in most cases) to support the load.

The difference between spread and round tow fabrics are small, but at the very edge of performance envelop every little bit helps.

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Re: Foundation training
« on: October 21, 2013, 11:21:37 AM »
Several posters here have used it to treat bulged/ruptured disks.  A good friend of mine ruptured a disk snowboarding, after 6 months of PT 2-3 times a week and the work at home she was given by the PT's she had no relief.  After reading what other posters had to say about foundation training, I told her about it.  It worked and last year we were able to ride together.  So what ever it is, something repackaged, something that borrows every from something else, something unique, it has offered relief to some people for whom nothing else has.

Happy birthday, just one of many more.  Sounds like a good day even if the surf was not completely cooperating.
