I have the RS 1300 and will have the RS 1k and 1150 this week but have already ridden them.
1300 is more surfy than the pnl. I still need to mess with my tail but it is better in rough stuff where the pnl got twitchy. I have been surfing it and downinding it daily and it is great. The pump is great if you keep it in the sweet spot but its not as good as I thought. It turns waaaaaayyy better than the pnl.
It does not turn as good as the nl 160 however the 1150 turns better and pumps better than the 160. I didnt get a single GT as the RS line is soooo good. They are definetly a expert level foil and like the kujira. I think my 1150 will be my daily the 1k for head high days and the 1300 for shore running / downwind. These foils really are game changing even the kujira guys here are loving them. The new GTs might be more forgiving with a lower stall speed but that is about it as far as I can tell.

Aloha! I have couple weeks where my wife and kid will be out of country and I have been learning to wing and downwind foil here in Puerto Rico ( I am a good prone foiler already) I was thinking of jumping a cheap flight to hood river for a week but have never been there. Is there a cheaper surf camp style place with a shuttle for doing DW runs? I am still having trouble going up wind on the wing so I was hoping for a shuttle to have a bit of leaway without doing miles of the wlak of shame.

Hi all I am a competent prone foiler from Maui that just bought a sup and wing dings. I want to go up to the gorge with the family in 2 weeks and take off work and learn to downwind and wing ding. I have a few questions as I am a newb to the area and downwind.
We are currently traveling in our adventure trailer I built.
1. Where is a good quiet campsite that I can park my little trailer? its self sustained and no hookups are needed it will fit anywhere a truck will we want a quiet place close to the water.
2. is there a guide on where to launch and get out ect?
3. Does anyone want to meet up and take a newb out? I am a competent waterman just new to downinding only done it in a outrigger
4. any suggestions for the area? places to wing routes to run, food ect
5. I need a pfd I assume any recommendations?
6.Really excited to get to learn these two branches of foiling . Thanks for any input

There are a lot of features that folks add to boards to "reduce weight" that actually increase weight. Like the pickle fork or manta nose. It seems like the cutout would reduce weight, but actually there's quite a bit more glass, and the tight turns generally hold resin. Same thing is true for concave sections. I REALLY good glasser can eliminate the extra glass and resin that accumulates on the inside edge, but any normal builder will wind up with more weight than flat. Neither that nor the extra water it holds on takeoff are the real reasons I don't like them. Number one is getting gutted sliding over the rail to get back on the board. We all know dugouts can crack your ribs and relocate your spleen just getting into them. Then there's the irritation of sliding your foot to the rail and hitting a stop.
Of course I'm beating a dead horse since Burchas has already shot it, but ...
This is very true I have tried to explain this to people when they would want channels in my boards. I can glass them but they always add weight mostly bc its impossible to do a thin hotcoat

I also think that width is key. Look at a Kalama carbon 5'8" it's is 29.25" wide, the 6'2" is 29.5" wide, too wide for a 5'8" like myself to feel effective with my stroke. My main objective with this board is downwind and flat water dead starts. I went with a 28.5" width.
To account for lost width I went with a more squared outline than the Kalama's but rounded up the ends just to give the shape some more grace so it would be pleasing to the eye imo. Also lowered the deck closer to the waterline and increased the wetted surface a bit by widening the flatter section on the bottom to account for the lost of overall width. Probably won't be as affective on touchdowns due-to changes to the angle of the chined rails, but looking at my priorities, I feel stability at this point is more important.
I intend (at least for the time being) to use it as my wing board as well since it is just an auxiliary activity for me when I have nothing better to do.
That was my brain fart. I gave it to a foiling shaper/builder in the Gorge area to work on, waiting to hear if he has any changes in mind. Hope that helps [/quote]
This looks great!!
