Gear Talk / Re: Red Paddle Co 9'6" Compact in the surf
« on: March 26, 2019, 03:06:56 PM »
Thanks for the input. Hadn’t thought about the split deck pad. I know that when surfing SUP or prone, getting the leash rope underfoot can sometimes completely thow me off. Haven’t seen the board in person, so not sure how much transition there is between the pad and the non-padded “stringer” section. Not as much as a leash rope, but still would take some getting used to. Anyway, just want the board for flat water, but able to get in some “glide” on small waves when the opportunity arises.

Gear Talk / Red Paddle Co 9'6" Compact in the surf
« on: March 16, 2019, 01:55:01 PM »
Anyone use one of the newer Red Paddle Co 9’6” Compact models in the surf? I know that, in general, inflatable SUPs are not ideal for the surf, but this new 9’6” compact model looks ideal for use when doing a lot of traveling by plane, bus, train, and taxi. It packs down so small, it looks ideal for travel, but my concern when using in the surf is the fin placement so far back on the board. Great for tracking in flat water I suppose, but seems like it could hinder turning in the surf (?). Thoughts?

Curious what the "granule" material is, and what the total weight of the board is.

Didn’t notice any posting about these boards, so I’m posting this.
Theses are the latest Tom Carroll / Blane Chambers collaboration from Global Surf Industries.

These are insanely beautiful boards!!!

Me with my brand new custom Clyde Beatty Jr. and my ’68 Westfalia in the background (and Pop’s ’64 Bug). At one point I lived in that Bus for 9 months, surfing from San Diego to Santa Barbara while collecting $69/week unemployment.

daswusup.
With your Wife being an ER Nurse, unlike most people, you are in an excellent position to give Maui a trial run. I know first hand that the HHSC hospitals are chronically short staffed and always use contract “Travel” nurses. Contracts are generally 3 months with the option of renewal at the end of each contract. The contract will pay round-trip air for your wife, pay your rent, pay for a car rental, plus what ever salary is negotiated. It would give you a chance to actually live on Maui with out the full commitment of a more permanent move. Visiting a place on vacation and living there are two very different things. Home school the kids. Get a chance to check out different neighborhoods. The real cost of rent, groceries etc. See what drive times to work are like. Get a real feel for actually living there. All while someone else is paying your rent, and providing you with a car.
The best way to come to Hawaii is on some one else's dime.  ;)

Gear Talk / Re: KeNalu Quick Clamp Adjustable Shaft UD Carbon
« on: October 22, 2014, 06:12:33 PM »
Thanks for all the feedback Fanman.
I was mainly interested in the "Quick Clamp Adjustable Shaft UD Carbon". I like the idea of being able to make quick adjustments out in the water and really dial in what works best, as apposed to the "Adjustable Part" ($10.00) that you need a tool to adjust, or just the Extended Ergo Handle that I'd have to come in from the water, heat and adjust. I did contact Lane not long after the The Quick Clamp  came out and it does use a different shaft. Thought  maybe now that it has been out for a while more people may have used them. I really do need an "one-paddle-does-all" and may just end up going with the xTuf(S) and Extended Ergo T handle since there is a lot of positive feed back on xTuf(S) shaft.

Thanks Fanman. From what I understand, the Quick Clamp Adjustables use a different shaft, and was curious how they compare to the xTuf(s) shafts. Also the feel/performance of the Quick clamp vs an xTuf(s) with extended Ergo T.

Gear Talk / KeNalu Quick Clamp Adjustable Shaft UD Carbon
« on: October 18, 2014, 02:10:47 PM »
I have a shoulder that sometimes gives me some problems and I’ve read a lot of comments about the xTuf(s) shafts being easy on the shoulders.
KeNalu has had their “Quick Clamp Adjustable Shaft UD Carbon” shaft available for a while now, but I haven’t seen much feedback. I like the idea of "one paddle fits all" and being able to adjust on-the-fly.
Anyone using one of these? How does it feel compared to an xTuf(s)?
