Canadian Prairies / Re: Alberta SUP events?
« on: February 08, 2013, 10:42:56 PM »
The Greater Edmonton SUP League was put together by the Rob at the Leduc boat club, it will be weekly events at Telford lake. A lot of us go out there to train, they have a racing course up (oc, dragon boats, etc.) so you can monitor your distance. There will also be a lot of events put on by The Easy Rider (river runs, races, etc.) over the summer. We have a pretty good group of people that are in to the sport and you usually run into someone not matter where you go.

Follow the Easy Rider on Facebook and the web, all the local events are posted by the shop. You can also join the Greater Edmonton Sup League on Facebook, weekly races starting Monday June 3.
I am not sure about southern Alberta.

SUP General / Re: Minimum bar distance on roof rack
« on: February 07, 2013, 11:57:41 AM »
Another good practice on a short roof line is to run an extra strap through the car on the highway. I run two boards on my roof rack (along with an outrigger) and it worked great for the last couple of years at highway speeds on 9 hour trips. Last fall I caught a cross wind and it pulled the roof rack clean off the roof of the car. It only left a small scratch, destroyed the outrigger and put a hole in one of my boards. Thankfully there was no one behind me or it would have been a bigger tragedy.
One extra strap and an extra minute would have saved a lot of money and aggravation.

Training, Diet, and Fitness / Re: TRX!?
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:55:42 PM »
From what I can see from the website the pro has rubber handles and a locking carabiner to discourage theft from a gym. The home is the basic set up with the door anchor. Most of the time the basic difference is the workout book / DVD that is included. The pro has the workouts designed for a trainer to teach to clients. The home has the basic workouts and the Military contains a military inspired workout.
The nice thing about TRX is if you are missing something you can easily buy it.

I am still waiting for my copy to arrive, I ordered it the day it came out but it will probably take some time to get to the great white north.
I am even considering getting a prone board for cross training.

Good to hear it is a worthwhile buy.

The description and dimensions are exactly the same in the 2012 catalaogue to the 2013 catalogue. The only thing they changed in the description was "2012" to "2013".The colors/graphics (and the pads - I think) have been upgraded.

The Mall  ;)
West Edmonton Mall. Usually once a month when Easy Rider books it.
Once the water is no longer frozen - the North Saskatchewan river and local lakes, the shuswap.

SUP General / Re: How to Remove a wetsuit
« on: March 03, 2012, 12:00:19 PM »
Depends which wetsuit...if its this one Im wearing a metallic hot purple thong for sure :)

I rock my wetsuits commando just like my board shorts. Of course i only wetsuit it for one month a yr.

Wow, Scary.... I actually had that Jet Pilot Wetsuit combo in that color from my Jet ski racing days circa '91. I think it is  still hanging in a closet at the lake. Hilarious.

6:30 am is too early for pita pockets, it was Tim Hortons coffee and donuts.
Always a good time for a pre-dawn patrol at the mall.
Thanks again to Warren and the Easy Rider.

You can check out pacificpaddle.net(in Bucerias), Adam the owner is a Canadian expat and a great guy. He has a fleet of starboards and others. They rent and do guided surf tours. You can also check out Mictlan Surf in Punta Mita (google it) another group of good mexican guys.
You can take the bus right to Punta Mita and rent a board from Mictlan and hit the break on the reef if there is swell.
Most of the places that do guided tours will pick you up.
Mictlan Surf also does snorkelling tours to the Marietas by private panga which is really cool for a small group.
