The Shape Shack / Re: redesign the flat deck into dugout?

Funny i have a 25x14 2012 Ace in my back yard it has not seen the water in a while since i started paddling a all star or sic. Things i didn't like were getting back on it or in it in the wind, the drains never seemed to keep up, paddling in the surf it would fill up punching through a wave not drain out fast keeping me in the surf longer, not as easy to move around on the board in surf and swell but it is fun to paddle. I would have sold you that cheap. But i am interested in your build i have a old carbon unlimited Bark i cant seem to part with and its heavy i have always thought of making it a dug out. Good Luck.

Lucky for both of you.

I have been testing, wearing two leashes while DW. been wearing a shorter straight leash to my leg like a (comp leash) and using a longer coiled leash to the fanny pack to keep it out of the water. The thought is the main leash the shorter one takes the abuse if it fails I'm still connected. The bummer after a fall the leash will sometimes tangle under the fin. I paddle alone allot with a 14x25 starboard ace i fall allot :D I have lost the board before just out messing around without a leash outside the surf the Ace has so much wind age even in a light wind I couldn't catch it. The other bummer is trying to swim with the fanny pack. So far the double leash works good. I also have a double string set up going to the board. That video is a scary reminder how fast it all goes bad.

thanks DJ.

The last part of the news clip said they were wearing PFd's and that made the difference, that makes more since.

Go Will Go,

I was able to meet him today as he went by Ventura, What a nice guy. We were tracking him with the spot, took a boat out found him a couple miles off shore, we gave him some water, took a couple of pictures, he told us a few stories and off he went. He sure was a happy guy even after paddling 51 days and not paddling slow he was moving. Great Inspiration.

I'm waiting for DJ to get his new 2015 Naish Javelin, looking forward to the review. When DJ the DW video king sells his new downwind board to buy a race board, I'm interested.

Nice one again,

I thought I got to paddle a bunch but your the man, seems everyday a good DJ / DW show. Keep em coming very motivating. You talked about moving around on your board more in another post and this one shows how a 1/2 step keeps you gliding.

Thanks

Sounds fun i have been to that area a bunch, don't get caught up in the moment and end up to far from the island. you can get a lot of current outside.

Thought I would Bump this.

Great job Will we have had a lot of wind down here this last month in Ventura hope it's at your back and your getting some good glides, looking forward to meeting you as you go by our Harbor.

I work for Ventura Harbor and gave our Marketing people your story, sounds like they are going to contact you and set up some sort of media for you when you get here and a place to stay.

Good Luck.

Hey Robert,

Yea that was me that called, I understood you were busy. thanks for the information, I'm not new to down wind paddling I have just been doing it on race boards. I saw the C-4s for sale on Craig s List and could not find any information on them for down wind stuff. I figured you guys in Hawaii would be the best source. So I called your shop because you have been so help full posting DW paddle information.

I just got back from a two day trip to our local Channel Islands of paddling, surfing and fishing. It's funny you know your addicted to the DW stuff when your in a boat and everyone is going it is rough out and your looking at the backs of waves going man that looks fun. I'm still in the hunt for the DW wind board just have to get it past the wife. I have 7 sups 4 surf and 3 distance boards have to sell a couple.

Also I like the looks of the Bump Rider boards.

Thanks again everyone.

Hey thanks for the quick reply,

DJ
your videos have been an influence on getting a DW board, I'm having fun on the boards I have but when it's over 20 knots I want to take it to the next level. I went out on a run with the Ace it was predicted 20/25 knots i got some great rides did some swimming it's all good, then the wind kept building to the point I would just stand up and rocketing down waves ending in a crash. Near the end I had to stay on my knees screaming down waves stuffing the nose into the back of the wave water up to my waist trying to make it back to the harbor entrance. When I came in I told my buddies at the Harbor Patrol I guess 30 knots is my limit, they laughed and said it was gusting to 45. I was having fun but remembering your videos in that kind of wind and your in control, started the hunt for a DW board.

Oh yea 200 lbs.

What do you think of the C4 boards?

Hey Max the boards I was looking at are only $700 and closer to me I'm in Ventura, I would think you would want more for your board?

Thanks again
