Foil SUP / Re: guys wanna see what the GoFoil NL220 is capable of?

yup ...6.5 pedestal... 18w tail with the wingtips...NL220 wing...and the 36.5 mast with the base plate adapter...

the mast is a bit too tall for small waves...the wing ends up being below the power of the swell in anything below waist high...and the turning radius is wider compared to a shorter mast...i would've preferred the 29.5tuttle with the base plate adapter or the simply the 32.5 plate mast...

but like pono did you gotta be really carefull when you squeeze the bladder to find the small leaks...its super fragile...i usually fix the big leaks that are easy to find but small high pressure only leaks i just buy a new bladder...way too much hassle

3
slow leaks are a super hassle...big leaks are easy...

pump the wing up to whatever pressure youre supposed to use... for mine i use 6psi and fill up one of those garden sprayers  with dish soap and water...you want it really bubly....spray the heck out of the all the bladders...totally soak up with soapy water you wont hurt them and youre going to hose them off anyway

big leaks will immediately startbubbling like hell and you'll know where it is easily...measure the distance from a fixed point...2 feet port or starbord of the main valve or whatever

for slow leaks they take longer bubble and it might be very small fine bubbles that only bubble for a short while when the pressure is still high enough...i.e. when the pressureis 6psidown to 5 psi the small holes will bubble but then once it drops below 5psi it won't bubble anymore...thats the real hassle and where you really need to keep close track of measurements so you can find the leak when you take out the bladder...

once you find all the leaks and measured them from a reference point ....hose off everything to get all the soap off...pull out the bladder and with a sharpie pen mark where you think the hole is...inflate the bladder just a little bit an grabbing about a foot either side of your mark...choke it off with your hands and submerge it in a bathtub ...hopefully you'll see bubbles in the water...the big holes will bubble easy...the little holes might not...for the little holes you may have to squeeze the inflated section harder because it'll only leak at the higher pressure

finding the leaks is the hardest part...then you just use the patch kit from fixmykite.com...basicly super sticky band aid stickys that work really well...or flex tape works well too and its at lowes and home depot

AND...the most important reason...

when you line up the plate on the upside down board and set the screws 1/2 turn with your fingers...set the driver bit in the Phillips head and pull the trigger...1,2,3,4...Brap,Brap.Brap.Brap!...kinda makes a sound like a Nascar tire change guy!

Cooooool ;D

How about if I sell you OFF the Torx screws heads...at least as far as impact driver and foil.isconcerned...

with the torx heads you put the bit  In the head of the screw  It locks itself in real solid...that's great for driving screws into thick dense wood BUT for something as fragile as a foil I don't know....i dont like it becausewhen you press the button on the impact driver that sucker takes off spinninng like crazy... Maybe 2 or more clicks of the impact  and you easily strip the threads in the fuselage Or break the tracks in the board... I've done this before lots of times...gotta be VERY carefull with the impact driver

BUT
with Phillip heads You just put the bit in the head of the screw and very lightly press the button without pushing down on the impact driver and when it hits 2 clicks of impact the bit will bounce right out the head no problem...idiot proof...sorf of

although over 20 to30 setups the bit eventually gets destroyed and you need new bolts...so yeah theres that...but they're cheep at lowes

its interesting you mentioned Junyas strap placement...i got one of his  old boards last year and i couldn't ride it AT ALL...they waaaaay too staggered...couldnt even paddle it...had to take um.off...so THATS how he does it!...

derek hamma if the same way....way staggered straps...mine are right on the centerline though....maybe i should try staggered straps next....

thats interesting about the titanium galling...way back when i rode dirt bikes and titanium axles first. came out they wouldn't sell the nut with the axle...you had to get a regular steel nut to use with the titanium axle...because the titanium nut would weld.itself to the axle and you'd be super SOL...at least with the steel.nut could be cut off with a hacksaw...
